Default Table maker that is incredibly easy to use and runs on windows 7

Hey all. It's been a while.

I took some time to learn a programming language or 3 and decided to get back into hacking. Or at least simple nes text hacking to start.

I started following a beginners tutorial, easy enough, till it says I need a table maker. Well the one the tutorial maker had on his site is no longer there (broken link). Alright, no big deal, I knew there had to be others.

Here's the trouble though. Either they run on M-Dos, or are for windows versions 2000 back. Win7 has trouble supporting these files. I got TAG to work to an extent, but after about 10 or so upper case letters (only alphabet in Zelda 2) it stopped and crashed. When I tried again it only gave me half a table (I input about 6 hex values for different letters, and yes, they where correct), and then crashed.

So given what I've told you all, is there a more modern (Xp-7) table maker that won't give a beginner to much of a fit?

If it helps the languages I know are QB, C++ and Java.

Edit:
Ok finally got tag to make a table file for Zelda 2. However I still need a modern one that can make a kanji table.

Notepad works pretty well.

I've never used TAG in Windows 7, but I've been thinking about rewriting it just for the hell of it. I'll probably make a Windows 8 version.

What you do is get a tbl file and make copies of it so you can use it as a base for your projects. They have table makers that run on windows but really you only need to use that to get a tbl file. Then you find the number values to the rom you are working on.

Download a japanese wordprocessor to make the kanji。
At romhacking.net they have a shift-jis table that should be right up your alley.

Table Auto-Generator Pro has been started. It's being coded for .NET (probably 3.5, unless I find features of 4.0 or 4.5 that are especially useful.) I suspect a beta will be released within two weeks. It would be sooner but I'm going to a Yawpers concert tonight and possible a Phaetons concert tomorrow, thus will be too hung over to code the rest of the weekend.

I'm a considerably better programmer now, than I was when I wrote TAG 1.0 and 2.b, as evidenced by the application I'm currently writing that has now surpassed 70,000 lines of code and is being used to manage a multimillion dollar industry. So TAG Pro will have a lot of features missing from earlier versions, such as the ability to load and edit tables, and unlimited character support.

Ok. I ended up finding monkey moore last night.

Don't you need to make different tables for different games?

If you didn't need to make different tables for different games, you wouldn't need to make tables at all because everyone would just use the same one. Sometimes you have to make different tables for the same game.

It's easy just use fceux go to the ppu viewer and write down the letter and number value. You can even do it old school by writing it down on a piece of paper and look up the values from there.
