Default What's your favorite emulator(s)?

Hi, what's everyone's favorite emulators specifically for:

Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Sega Mastersystem, Genesis, PSX, MAME? oh and Nintendo 64

Is Stella better than PC Atari?
Can't remember the NES emulator I used.. Nesticle??
I used ZSNES
Never did Sega Mastersystem.. would like to
Never did Genesis before.. would like to
I liked epsxe for PSX
MAME32 cuz it's easy to use..
I liked NEmu & project 64 for N64 .. is one better?

Thanks everyone! ^_^

Benny

Haha, a MAME emulator. A funny way of phrasing it.

Don't use Nesticle. I would reccomend FCE Ultra, or some variant of it.

> I used ZSNES
Continue using it.

> Never did Genesis before.. would like to
Nor do I, but I'm pretty sure Kega Fusion is the way to go now.

> I liked epsxe for PSX
That's what I use. A better question is which plugins to use.

I just use Snes9x. I don't emulate much else besides SNES, maybe GBA (And for that I use No$GBA). So yeah...I would definitely use ePSXe for PSX though...

Not a clue. I generally don't do 8-bit stuff.

> Can't remember the NES emulator I used.. Nesticle??

That's crap. Use FCE Ultra.

> I used ZSNES

Still the best, use the latest version. But keep Snes9x around in case you run into a game ZSNES can't handle.

> Never did Sega Mastersystem.. would like to

MEKA is the best for accuracy, but Kega Fusion is easier to use and only slightly less accurate.

> Never did Genesis before.. would like to

Kega Fusion is the best right now. It's even better than Gens.

> I liked epsxe for PSX

Still the best. I highly recommend using the ePSXeCutor frontend.

> MAME32 cuz it's easy to use..

Yep, still great. I prefer MAME32 Plus! myself though.

> I liked NEmu & project 64 for N64 .. is one better?

I preferred 1964 up until fairly recently, but I've found the latest version of Project64 to be exceptionally good. Use Project64 for now. Nemu64 was discontinued a while back and isn't so good now.

Let's see....

SNES - ZsnesW

PSX - ePSXe

N64 - Genereally PJ64 with Rice's Video, although 1964 seems to be more efficient with framebuffer effects..ie blurring motion type effects like in the intro of Majora's Mask.

NES - Fceu Ultra

GBA - Visualboy Advance (does anyone not use this?)

DS - iDEAs (of course, none of them run commercial games and I don't care about that anyway...this seems to have the most advanced emulation of the 3-D thus far as I recall) with Dualis a close second

Genesis/SegaCD/32x - Kega Fusion...although I think Gens might be a might more effiecient with 32x...I think Kega Fusion has outclassed Gens at this point though.

Arcade - Mame32 Plus! often, but for CPS-2 Final Burn Alpha always.

Pete's Plug-ins with Eternal SPU for sound (I feel it sounds a bit better)!

Depends what you mean by 'efficient'. If you mean 'faster', then you're probably right. Kega Fusion is a tad slower than Gens. But if you've got a half-decent PC, Kega Fusion is more accurate than Gens in all areas.

Your selections are the same as mine, though I'd have to say that Kega is definately a better emulator than Gens. I've yet to run into any 32X titles that were any less than flawless on it.

Most emulators feel "clunky", but not Kega. NeoRagex is also another fine example of a well made emu.

Not to mention the only one (last I checked) that could actually both load and play the (very few) 32x + CD games.
