Default Octo Diary 2

For starters, I got a programming project back, wound up getting only HALF the points that it was worth. Why?

A: I forgot to put a header on it with my name and the class, etc. I'm sure that when I create a program for a company, I will be fired for not putting my name and MW 9:30.

B: Indentation. I swear to fucking fuck that however I put my code, the fucker says I screwed up on a part of indentation.

C: The loop. For those of you that know java, he had said that I should have used a do-while loop instead of a while loop. Let us not forget that any loop can be done in a while loop. The difference here was that the loop was going to go through once. The way to do it in a while loop is to initialize the variable checked in the boolean part of the loop to be a value that will turn up true. I see nothing wrong with this, but apparently he does. He didn't say anything to me when I had him look at my program to see whether I needed comments on any parts.

D: The program name. I named it DoctorLove. I didn't realize in his instructions that he wanted the program to be named Doctor. In the program itself, the "doctor" is Doctor Love. Forgive me for PRECISION.

E:....nothing, that's it.

4 minor things, a couple of which should not have meant anything, and I get half credit on this project. Out of 30 points, I think I should have missed maybe 8 points max, and I missed 15.

I bowled today...pissed away a possible best game ever in my life into a 171. I started off strike, strike, spare, strike, strike, spare, strike. 7 frames, 7 marks. The next 3 frames...0 marks. I could not knock down 10 pins in 2 balls per last 3 frames whereas I knocked down all 10 in the first ball of 5 of the first 7 frames. A possible 220 or 230 like the game was shaping up to be became a meager 171 in the scope of things. The 2 games after that were 138 and 136. Overall, I bowled higher than my average, but it was still a disappointment.

I pigged out tonight on chinese food...approx. $9 worth of Panda Express, so it was quite a bit, and yet about 5 hours later I can down a whole bag of beef jerky as if I never ate (well...I can down a bag of jerky ANYTIME, but the fact that I felt hungry at all was strange). The evil cycle thus continued...binge eating, depression because I'm fat, causing binge eating, etc etc.

Tonight I was mainly lost in thought about the deviancy scale thing....I now call it the Deviant Behavior/Characteristic (DBC) Scale. Tomorrow I'm gonna search the web for possibly any signs of a measurement of deviancy like it. If there isn't, I think I might build up upon it. The least it will become is a future research paper, so I don't see it as a lost cause.

I thought of a line from one of my favorite movies, Very Bad Things, that might at least illustrate my reasoning behind thinking about the deviancy scale at all. In the scene, it's the aftermath of the accidental killing of a stripper. One of the 5 men that have to deal with it speaks up about how to solve the problem of cleaning up and getting rid of the body before the accident is found out and something happens to them.

"If you take away the horror of the scene, take away the tragedy of the death, take away all the moral and ethical implications that have been drilled into your head since grade one, do you know what you're left with? A 105-pound problem that needs to be moved from point A to point B."

It is a very grisly line...maybe one of the most grisly I've ever heard in a movie, but the point he makes is actually a valid point in many things. Take Calculus for instance...I started learning derivatives a week ago. All the derivative stuff can get pretty complex pretty quick, and I can see how some math students can have a problem with it. Take away the static, mainly that you're in a somewhat advanced math class, that there are some rules and formulas necessary to remember, etc etc, and all derivative really is is slope. Slope is an algebraic concept. No matter how complex derivative problems get, it will always boil down to slope stuff. So essentially, someone can think of derivative in a more basic way than just taking derivative at face value and treating it like a very complex concept. Now, it feels familiar...just like going from y = 3x + 2 to y = x^2 - 3x + 1. Taking the derivative of a polynomial just feels like slope squared.

Same deal with deviant behavior/characteristic measurements. The scale would be a more basic way of saying something complex. If you put it in more basic terms, it can probably be easier to use in certain applications.

I dunno...I could be way off base on this stuff, but this is just what I've been thinking about tonight. Off to bed now :P

That's what fuckin got me...the program works perfectly fine. The code is very organized. What the hell more did he need? The indentation parts that I messed up on were where I put closing brackets. That I suppose I should be marked down for, maybe 1 pt each (so 2 pts), and maybe 5 points max for no header, and maybe 1 pt for the wrong name of the program. The loop should not be marked down...otherwise, the fact that he said any loop can be written in terms of a while loop is pretty fuckin moot if we aren't allowed to do that. That leaves me with 8 points off. Maybe he doesn't like my goatee or somethin, lol.
