Default controlling NES gui with game pad?

I'd like to program the extra button on my game pad to navigate the GUI of my NES emulator. Right now I've got VirtuaNES and it's a fine emulator. I'd like to be able to sit back, away from the monitor and be able to switch games without having to get up every time. Any suggestions?

I used to do this with Zsnes...in that case all the gamepad buttons were mapped to keyboard buttons though (you could achieve something similar using a program such as Joy2Key). Meaning I could have one button mapped to Escape, which would exit me to the menu and I could then navigate the menu with the other gamepad buttons.

I use Xpadder with a wireless 360 USB..best combo ever.
Im so used to playing 360 games..that when I play emu's or any PC game, I load up xpadder and my 360 wireless USB and configure for the games' buttons.
You could easily assign the "Esc" button and controls for the menu.

****BTW****
Hurry up and grab the last version of this awesome free software! The sites been moved and about to go down.http://xpadder.com/
