Default Custom Arcade Cabinets

Just wondering if anybody on this board has any experience with custom arcade cabinet building. I'm thinking of putting together a nice 4-player stand-up cabinet for fighting games and some of my old favorites.

For starters, what are some of the better brands for controls? The only site I've really looked at is Happ Controls. I'm looking for an assortment of things: 4/8-way joysticks, flight sticks with triggers, spinners possibly, and whatever else there may be.

And lastly while I'm thinking about it, does anybody know if it's possible to use, say, a Dreamcast light gun in place of those expensive arcade ones? I've seen them on Happ's and others for well over a hundred per gun. That's a bit out of my range for one control. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

Happ is the only way to go.

You didn't say what you plan to use the Dreamcast light gun WITH, which is really what matters, so I'll say that the answer is probably no.

Ok. Arcade shooters such as Time Crisis, Virtua Cop, and Area 51... And possibly console shooters such as House of the Dead 3.

I plan on etching a board to handle multiple systems for every control, so I guess what I'm asking is if the light gun technology is basically the same.

No. The only light guns you can use with MAME or other arcade emulators are those that treat the gunshot as a positioned mouseclick. If you plan on using a PC monitor, get the Act Labs USB Light Gun. If you plan on using a TV, there's a TV version of the gun from Act Labs as well.
