Default Mod-chips for...

Do the Atari Jaguar and Sega Saturn require mod-chips to play burnt games? Or do they even exist?

No idea on the Jaguar... The Saturn, (IIRC) however does require a mod for CDRs, and a Pro Action Replay 4-in-1 card (plugs into the back of the system) or similar for imports.

I doubt the Jag needs a chip, wasn't the JagCD out about the same time as the SegaCD? I could be wrong though.

Anyway, there is also a 'workaround' needing a ST-Key or Action Replay for playing imports. There's a proggie called SatConv.exe that can actually open the image of the CD (you'll need to have the iso on your PC btw, this doesn't work on the actual CD) and change the country code, so it can play on a non-territory-switched Saturn.

This works great for certain NeoGeo conversions like King of Fighters 95, as the game requires its own ROM cart to run. Not a RAM cart, an actual ROM cart, so the Action-Replay wouldn't help you there.

You still need to use a swap-trick to get it to work, so you need to have at least one legit game. Also, you have to mod your saturn so that it doesn't know when the lid is open. There's a faq for how to do it on gamefaqs somewhere. Check under Saturn hardware. It's pretty easy, I just had to duct-tape two contacts together <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

Well yeah, but the thread-stater was actually talking about ModChips. They do away with the need for swapping. It's just like the old Playstations. Pop it in, play. No gh3y swapping.

Do you still need a mod-chip when you use the swap trick? Most likely.

Well, no. The Swap-Trick uses an original game to trick the Saturn into booting the game, so you swap the real game with a burned one, at a specific time and it plays.

Very annoying to do, if you ask me.

just go here - www.segaxtreme.com

there's a guy named racketboy that sells Saturn Mod chips for about 15 bucks. It's a brainless install, and youre set.
