Default SMILE version 0.25 released!

SMILE has finally been updated. This version has a critical fix for a bug in the Pointer Editor (which could basically render your rom useless). A Map Editor has also been added. You can now preview the tile types of the room to look for "holes" in your level. A File Comparer has been added to aid in future bug fixing. Item Drops now work. There are around a dozen other bug fixes and minor features.

BTW- I'll be starting to make better help files now, to assist you in figuring out any features that you can't seem to find.

It may be in there as an easter egg, but I'd doubt it.

Default bugs?

1. Read-only files causes an error on loading.
2. After messing up with Crateria (a bit), I started on Space Colony. If you press start, then again, the background (layer 2) got messed up.
3. In the 'Room properties', any special reason for avoiding a 'Cancel' button??? <img src=smilies/retard.gif>
4. Some items, when placed, once Samus acquire them, most of them will ALWAYS reappear.

#3 is something I never considered much of a problem, but not a bad idea just incase you mess up something (although you can't really mess anything up too bad *mainly if you edit the area name will be the worst case along with screens for the room*

#4 I have no idea how it could mess up. You're supposed to use a different index number for every item pickup. I can't remember exactly how it works anymore.

#1 What's the point of opening a read-only file in SMILE anyway? You won't be able to save the changes. Super Metroid Integrated Level Editor is the name. Take the Read-only off. @Jathys, might want to have a message warning the ROM is read-only and to take the read-only off. Depending on where you get your ROM from, the read-only is turned on.

Even though I think you're a douche for even trying this, it'll be fixed with an annoying pop-up . . . Have you tried setting the door pointer to $0000 yet

Does the start button even *work* in Space Colony? Only if you enabled it on the Game Behavior form . . . Colony does that sometimes (which is why you have to be selective of BG's there if you want to use the start button).

There used to be a reason . . . Then I realized that since there *is* a Cancel button available in 1/100th of a second after you press ok, it wouldn't be needed . . . Nevertheless, I'll add one in

This actually isn't a bug. In the PLM Editor, you have Index and Unknown . . . If Unknown is 80 (or above) the item will keep reappearing. If Unknown is 00 (or above in some cases) the item won't re-appear . . . . . I'm starting to work on a thorough Help File that will answer questions like this better.

Default for the next release?

I'm still taking bug/annoyance reports (duh) on this release of SMILE. Nevertheless, I'm starting to work on the next release already. Any suggestions for new features will be taken into consideration.

Planned so far:
-Text Editor (less PMS'ish than the one in SABS)
-Suit Palette Editor (more complete than the one in SABS)
-Anything else that SABS does that SMILE doesn't
-Copy structure to clipboard (so things like door bubbles don't have to be made by hand quite so much)
-More bug fixes
