Default Level design samples (Super Metroid)

I made a post a while back about searching for assistance in my upcoming "real" hack. Well, I've officially started the project now. Won't be ready for levels to be edited yet (as I may be wiping the level data out completely to start out with, plus SMILE needs one or two updates to assist in the hack), but I *am* ready to start choosing people for the project . . . I say *choose*, because I've got over 9 people wanting to edit the 8 areas available to be hacked.

If you want to help the project by doing level design (as a reminder, each person in the project will be responsible for one area and the things in that area), edit room $7D2AA and e-mail the patch to jathys@hotmail.com

If you want to help in the project by doing something other than level design (ie- graphics, ASM, whatever...), send me a sample of what you can contribute.

I'll be doing one area myself, along with some graphics, but want to focus mainly on my ASM changes . . . Planning quite a few of those, but I'm just learning to code beyond the basics.

Can I ask how you plan to edit the maps? Or just using a Tile Editing program?

I wouldn't mind designing levels, but I'm not that great a pixel artist, so my efforts are limited. However, given enough background information, I'm sure I can assist in the map design.

Tile Editing programs are for editing graphics. For graphics, I'm sure to use a SMILE/TLP combination. As for how I plan on editing the maps . . . SMILE can do this quite easily.

Jathys, I told you I'd help then, I will now. Although I'm going to help KP9000 with his group hack, I feel this hack will be more "up my alley" so to say. Wiping the entire area is the best way to come up with original design. I'll try to get on IRC Wednesday or Thursday to find out more, because until then, my college professors have me busy. I'd just like to see what the entire map (of Zebes) would look like so all the rooms will join. *wishes he still had the Super Metroid level designs he drew in middle school before he knew hacking was possible <img src=smilies/cry.gif>*

And... yeah... sorry for not coming on IRC lately, busy with school and work or other things.

Depends. I need to see samples of that room edited first, so I can tell the styles/skills of people who are offering help. Won't be ready for level designing to actually start until 2 releases of SMILE (first of which is today).

Default Alliance Homepage

In the future, this will include screenshots and downloads of various things. As of this instant, it doesn't contain much. In any case, I will keep progress about the project on the page. With any kind of luck, this will inspire a few more people to start sending in level samples (ie- I've had over 10 people offer help, but only one send in samples so far).

FYI- "Alliance" may only be a temporary name, but seems appropriate considering the group effort and what I have planned for the hack.

Default Current progress

Moving along slowly, but lots of research has actually been done. Three of my older scripts have been recoded/shrunken/fixed so far . . . gravity.asm, clearmem.asm, blocker.asm . . . I'm hoping to finish 2 *new* scripts before Saturday and make them available to beta testers in one fashion or another.

I have several scripts planned, but am still looking for ideas for ones to do next week (even if it's for someone else's hack). Let me know if you've got ideas.

Default Screenshots:-D

Kind of difficult to show screenshots of ASM scripts, as no level/graphic editing has been done. Nonetheless, I've come up with one:
<table border=1><tr><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td align=center>Door transition BEFORE</td><td align=center>Door transition NOW</td></tr></table>
This is still a bit buggy, but is only 3 bytes long as well (EA EA EA) . . . I'll be writing the actual code for my transition on Thursday.
