Default What You'd Like to See on the Wii

Okay, I have a Wii. It's an awesome system, but I feel like
its potential is about as far from being tapped as possible.

I'd really like to see some more games that use the controller's
functionality in a first-person sense. If I had a specific
kind of dream vision in mind, it'd be ...

A fully 3D first-person horror adventure title, like
the 7th Guest/11th Hour, with a manipulable environment.

What about you?

Some sort of urinal game where you hold your wiimote like it's your penis, and even "shake" off the drops when you're done.

Metal Gear Wii. You have to stealthily pee on as many people as possible in your mission against the genome project or something -- they can fix the story in post.

To tell the truth, my secret fantasy for the Wii has nothing to do with its controller - what I really want is for it to become a refuge for 2D gaming. The VC thing is encouraging this right now, and I believe SNK and a couple of other 2D heavyweights are interested in the Wii and will be making next-gen 2D on it. My dream would be for Cave to start porting all it's unported arcade shmups to it. ESP Galuda II and Mushihime-sama Futari are the first modern games to have grabbed my attention in a long, long time.

By the way, all you Wii goobs out there, I have an interesting tale for you. The other day, I went into a video game shop here in Kumamoto. They were sold out of Wii systems, but they had a whopping six PS3's waiting to be bought. Five were there the next day, too. While I wouldn't expect the disparity to exist across the entire Japanese market, one still can't help but wonder if the the Wii and the PS3 are going to have the same market-relationship in Japan as the DS and the PSP.

I'd like to see a version of Pilot Wings that uses the Wii Remote's ability to control pitch and yaw. I'd also like to see a version of Pikmin that uses the pointer (as far as I'm concerned, Pikmin was MADE for a system like Wii).

Aside from that, I want some brand new IPs for Wii. Some truly great, out-of-the-box thinking will create some amazing new franchises. I feel like we're only scraping the surface of what Wii can do.

Here is my main problem with the Wii right now.

I received Elebits as a gift and I'm having an absolute blast with it. Very fun game, easy to pick up and get into, has the "just one more level" hook...a solid title all around. Is it worth $50? No.

The Wii has a handful of "looks cool, but not $50 cool" titles out right now and that is a big problem. We are all buying Ubisoft ports with Wii functionality thrown in because the system is brand new and that kind of stuff can sell. But can you imagine if Red Steel, in its current state, was released a year from now? Unacceptable.

A lot of people have said that the first few months of the Wii will look similiar to the first few months of the DS - minigame compilations and "hey cool, touchscreen" games that are fun but shallow. I'm waiting for someone, either Nintendo or a random third-party, to finally "get it" and release a game that is actually worth $50 and is not called Zelda.

That's an interesting point. I'm very hopeful for the 2D front as well; I read an interesting interview with Iga (the Castlevania director) over at GamaSutra, where he said that opportunities for developing 2D games were really getting fewer and fewer, and that the DS was really the last bastion for 2D gaming. Go Wii and VC.

2D forever. No matter what people say, it really offers an awesomely distinct gameplay experience that just doesn't translate to a fully 3D environment.
