Default ePSXe Final Fantasy 9

I just installed ePSXe 1.6.0 a couple days ago and worked at it until I could get it running. I have made ISO files of my FF9 hardcopy using Alcohol 120%, since I do not have a PSX any longer. After tweaking I got the game to run ok, however, there is one FMV I've gotten to that the ePSXe freezes at. The video slows to a stop but still remains on the screen and the sound stutters. I have been able to run all other FMV's so far without any problem. The game is pretty much brand new, not a scratch on it, and I get the same problem even if I am running the CD itself using the emulator. I can't get any further unless I can get past this FMV. Any ideas? Is there a way to turn off FMV's using ePSXe? Here are my specs:

System:
AMD Athalon 1.66 GHz
512MB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 4 440 64MB video card
XP Professional Service Pack 2

Pete's Open GL 1.75
set on "nice" setting with Auto detect FPS and FPS limit
also FF9 extra settings checked

changing to Pete's DX6 D3d or regular D3D 1.75 didn't help.

What sound plugin? Try PEOpS if you haven't already.

There are known FMV issues with that game and the ePSXe 1.60 core. At least one of the FMVs that I know of (if I recall correctly, near the end of the 2nd disc) will indeed crash/hang the emulator every time no matter what plugins you use (I ended up copying the save via a DexDrive and played through that section on my PS2 to get past it). I've seen (on other forums) people mention trying the previous version of ePSXe, as they were able to play through the entire game on that version.

I've had a couple spots in ePSXe 1.60 where some FMVs will crash, yet loading it back up and playing through it again will run fine. But that one in particular was a show-stopper for many people.

Just tried PEOpS, no luck. Oh well, I might just have to bite the bullet on this one. ePSXe just doesn't fancy FF9. I am not very far into the game. It's the FMV directly after boarding the cargo ship at Dali. I might just have to play games that were meant for computer...

Have you tried saving to memorycard, then loading the game in, lets say, PSXeven and see if it works?

Yep, that's the one FMV in particular that I was referring to... just was thinking of the wrong disc.

Like I said before, ePSXe 1.60 has a problem internally with that FMV and it cannot be fixed by using a different plugin. You will either have to try the prior version of ePSXe (as I've seen elsewhere that it does not exhibit the problem), another PS1 emulator (if you don't have one, there's a couple of different memcard converters you can try if you need to change the format for another emulator), or copy the save over to a real memcard (via DexDrive, homebrew, or similar device) and play on a real system.

From personal experience, once you get to the next available save point after the FMV, you can go back to ePSXe 1.60 if you want... last I played any of it, I was on the 4th disc and only had to forego ePSXe 1.60 for that one FMV.
Edited by MegaManJuno on 06/03/05 02:19 AM.
