Post How do I use Gextract and G-Insert?

Recently, I got a program called "Gextract" and "G-Insert", and it is supposed to convert NES ROMs to BMP images. However, I have absolutely no idea on how to use the damn thing. I'm fairly new at ROM hacking, so a little assistance would be greatly appreciated. PLEASE RESPOND! Thanks!

First, what are you wanting to do? There may be a better way than to use 12 year old DOS utilities. I have a feeling it's not going to work as well as you hope, anyway. Unless the graphics are stored as such in the ROM, you're unlikely to get anything you can make much sense of if you use gextract.

I'm trying to edit the character sprites in some NES ROMs. Do you know any program good for that?

Tile Molester is the best choice. YY-Chr is another popular editor. Keep in mind that most games don't store the sprites in the way they appear in the game. They'll usually appear scrambled. Tile Molester lets you change the column/row size which can sometimes put the graphics in the proper format but it requires a lot of trial and error.
