Re: Damn
I dont know,
I am not a rom hacker. What your proposing does seem very difficult. Adding more stuff into a compiled program. Yikes!

Well, it is rather difficult to explain how to recode a game in a messageboard thread. Do you even know 65816 Assembly? If not, start by learning that, then move on to actually implementing new features in a game.

Man, you just totally made me want to scan this picture my friend drew of Adolf Hitler nailed to a swastika and send it to every church and synagogue in the phone book.

I'd SO play that.

Re: People edit, but how do you ADD?
Okay, so editing is easier, but it appears that in the FF3 Editor program, you can alter the world map. Can I put in a town on the world map and when you walk into it, it gets you into, say, Narshe, and I can just edit the whole Narshe map, making it so it can be whatever I want it to be?

Re: People edit, but how do you ADD?
...alright.
Am I seriously the only person in this thread who looked at the original post and immediately thought...
"Great, this guy created a modified sprite using a simple FF3 GUI editor program, and now he thinks he can conquer the world"? He said he's not even experienced with a hex editor.
I haven't played with the FF3 editor, but I have a feeling that you're in way over your head. There's no way you're going to be able to create a completely new location using a GUI editor unless... well, unless these programs are more robust than I thought. We're talking about creating entirely new routines here for locations and characters and who knows what else.
Why not just have a go at it with RPGMaker or something? Create a completely new game based on FF6 without having to worry about expanding a ROM or anything like that.
Good luck, but don't expect hand-holding from these guys unless you're an astonishingly quick learner... which I doubt you are. You just want a quick answer to something that isn't really quick at all... :\

Re: People edit, but how do you ADD?
It takes time. Do not be so impatient. My first (what I considered a successful hack) took four months. Become one with the hex.
It is your friend.
Event changing is a pain in the ass. You need to know the whole game back to front. I'm not saying it's impossible, just a major pain.
I've never hacked an SNES games, therefore I can't elaborate on adding data. I'm sure it's quite similar to NES and Gameboy, however where pointers need to be checked, and possibly moved.

I can almost guarantee you he doesn't even know what a pointer is, nor the concept behind one.
As always, feel free to prove me wrong.

Re: People edit, but how do you ADD?
Which is why I was asking if the editor was capable of doing what I wanted. I was actually planning on asking if someone was planning on making a GUI editor that's just like RPG maker but I though: Nah, too hard. You're right, I don't even know what a pointer is, I shall cut off my penis and commit harakiri for bothering you.
I think the world would truely shut up if someone out there made the ultimate GUI editor that does everything for you. If any of you made one, you would be a famous hero in the rom hacking community. Just think about the children!
