Tutorials + Project for Megaman X3 hack
Hi! Before people yell at me, I'm a newbie and I would like to have some info on how to rom hack. I know nothing, niet.
And I do sprites using Mario Paint and the Print Screen Button sometimes. Anyways, I would like to know where I could get any tutorials on how to and what I need exactly. I would like to start with text, seems easier, but then maybe not.
Got 2 projects: 1) Text hack Secret of Mana, for an old gag with friends of mine
2) Completely create a new game based on the Megaman X3... in fact, I'd like to make a prelude to the X series using that rom... and if it's impossible because of some reason, please tell me, I'll try something else instead of wasting my time on this... thx in advance people

Well, since you've already said that you know nothing about ROM hacking, saying that you want to do something requiring such massive skills (seeing as you'd have to figure out the format of the level data, the way dialogue is stored, and more) is putting the cart before the horse in a severe way.

Re: Tutorials + Project for Megaman X3 hack
At least you tell me that it's a real load of work. Quite frankly, thanx, so I know I will have to put a lot of effort into it, like starting by knowing the how to's, and putting that project aside. Then anyone knows where at least I can get some tutorials for beginners?

Re: Tutorials + Project for Megaman X3 hack
Thx for your help. Very appreciated, and since I studied a little assembly in college, I might be able to do something.
I will start with something easy (like smb, there must be like a million hacks and docs out there) and then I'll move on to something of my liking. One day, there will be a MMX Prelude done by me... and my team if I figure that the project is worthwhile.

Re: Tutorials + Project for Megaman X3 hack
I can only assume "Prelude" would be about Sigma, or possibly Zero, since MMX would be "the" beginning of X's fight.

Re: Tutorials + Project for Megaman X3 hack
In fact it's seprated in two parts. First part is about the Original series, about Wily, Zero and Megaman. Second part is about Sigma vs Zero, the infection of sigma, Vile to become a maverick...
BTW, I got back to my assembler book. I'm going to read thru it again, since last time I checked it was in college, and I flunked out. Anyways, I've got a friend who's going to help me a bit. Now I'm fooling around with SMB. I'm starting to figure out some steps to take before going head on into my big project
