Default SMB1 hacking

I have a few questions regarding SMB1 editors.

One, can any editor change the backgrounds? I mean, the location of the plants, shrubs, fences, etcetera;

Two, which is the easiest to use? I just want to move around some enemies and redraw the map, just to tinker around with the game. Nothing fancy or incredibly insane. ;P

Thanks.

I'm not quite sure...
I don't recall.

I found this to be quite simple to use, back when I was messing around with SMB.

I looked into this before (someone asked the same question here) and from the documents I read it doesn't seem like you can change them. That is, it's not part of the level data itself, it's generated by the game automatically. You'd have to modify the routine that generates them, as far as I can tell.

http://www.zophar.net/utilities/download/ut100eb3.zipSMB Util looks great. I never made a hack with it, but its features and interface are amazing.

Too bad it doesn't have any instructions.

I can figure out most everything, but how the fuck do I add enemies? It only lets me change already existing enemies, not add any.`

Too bad that like the other YY programs... no instuructions, and totally unintuitive. Nothing makes sense.

Not that I know anything about this particular program, but that's fairly typical of games as tightly coded as SMB. Every enemy the game can create is used, so as not to waste any space. Thus also the level reuse and storing the level data itself in the CHRROM.

Though please note once again that I don't know everything about this program, or SMB.
Edited by hcs on 09/18/05 01:50 AM.
