Default Winamp Q

Is there a plugin that allows Winamp to convert a MIDI into an MP3?

Winamp at one point allowed you to convert to any quality MP3 you wanted to. From 320 all the way on down to 32, but why that up and vanished (thanks 5.x!) I'll never know. So, you'll have to do an extra step. Get the songs in your playlist, Ctrl + P. Plugins -> Output -> Diskwriter. Choose WAV, then get a converter that'll do WAV to MP3. (Musicmatch Jukebox, dbPowerAMP, etc come to mind.)

I use the out_lame.dll plugin.

What works for me in Winamp 2.77 is:

1. Go to Preferences>Plug-ins>Input
2. Double-click on "Winamp2 MIDI plugin-in v2.6a [in_midi.dll]"
3. On the "Device" tab set the "Device" list box to "DM/Microsodt Synthesizer"
4. On the "Output" tab, enable the checkbox for "Play through Winamp's output system"
5. Click OK.
6.Now that you're back in the general Preferences window go to Plug-ins>Output
7. If you have out_lame.dll select that. (Otherwise use Nullsoft's out_mp3.dll.)
8. Double-click it and select desired quality and output directory settings. Press OK.
8. Close the Preferences window.
9. Open and play the midi. The progress bar should advance, but you shouldn't hear anything.
10. IMPORTANT: Go back into Preferences>Plug-ins>Output and select the normal output plugin that was being used before (probably waveOute or DirectSound). Otherwise you'll keep generating mp3 files instead of hearing anything.
11. Playback the mp3 that was generated to see if everything worked ok.

Because AOL bought them. Duh.

It's possible that the MIDI will play through your sound card's synthesizer and not winamp's output plugin if you don't configure things right, though.
