Default Anime.

I used to like it a lot when I was in high school but then I grew out of being nuts about the genre. But now I've seen some anime that I actually really like a lot (Berserk, Grave of the Fireflies, Soul Taker, Gunslinger Girl). Some anime I never stopped liking was Neon Genesis Evangelion, AKIRA, Princess Mononoke, and Patlabor 2. I guess I don't like kiddie anime, which is what a lot of people continue to watch into their twenties. I can't freaking watch Tenchi Muyo, Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, or even Inuyasha. Basically, something described as Shounen or Shojo is not to my tastes for the most part. Anyone have any recommendations?

Make sure you call it AH-NEE-MAY or else you'll have a bunch of self-righteous nerds raising their voices at you.

Wow, that's surprising. I'm only (slowly) watching the series because it has Komugi, but I can't really see what's "good" about that series other than the art style.

http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.p...=anime&aid=575Kino no Tabi</a>. Don't let the talking bike throw you off, it's not kiddie. The series is like a loosely connected set of short stories, each one being about a different civilization that a traveler comes across. It's kinda thought-provoking, with a bit of action thrown in at times.

http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.p...earch=narutaruNarutaru</a> was pretty great too, mostly because it looks like a kid's show but gets really messed up. If you check out Narutaru, watch at least the first two episodes, since the first one is kind of kiddie by itself.

And, of course, there's http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.p...db.search=flclFLCL</a>, which turns up in every anime recommendation thread eventually (along with Evangelion, but you've already got that one covered).

Honestly I believe the stuff should be called what it was called in the late 80s and early 90s. JAPANIMATION.

I like DBZ, but the Japanese version is 100 times better because they don't edit the hell out of it like they do with the FUNimation version. And no I dont mean boobies. I mean good fights and all out violence. All of these cartoons like Cardcaptor, Pokemon (sorry Flash), Medibots, BeyBlade, Yugioh, Full Metal Alchemist, etc are the ones I cant stand.

Although I did watch some episodes of Tenchi, but Im not sure which series it belonged to. Isnt Tenchi like Gundam, where it has like 200 different universes or something? Anyway, I watched it and it looked pretty cool, especially with those little cat/rabbit things that turn into Spaceships. Seriously, how cool is that? lol.. I also thought Avatar: The last Air Bender was going to suck ass, but I watched it and I was pleasantly surprised. It has a cool story so I sorta liked it but I havent caught it in so long.

One I got into a little is Naruto. Ive seen about 7 episodes of it and it looks like it might be pretty cool. Honestly though, I'm more into Anime MOVIES rather than series. So I preferr Appleseed (old and new) Akira, Fist of the North Star, Ghost in the Shell, Wind named Amnesia, Honniamise, Miyazaki films and the like. I do like some short series, like the old version of BubbleGum Crisis/Crash, Blue Gender and stuff like that.

What is FLCL about? Ive heard people raving about it but Ive never seen it.

Hmm, you might like "Haibane Renmei", "Now and Then, Here and There", and "Monster".

Tried Fist of the North Star? Supposed to be classic although the current movie remake was rather shoddy. Oh and if you want an awesome sci fi one, try the Galaxy Express series. I would also have to second Appleseed, and I thought that Ghost in the Shell was pretty cool. One thing I never got was what the hell the big deal was with Aeon Flux. Especially the guy who drew it contributing to the Animatrix. If he did the one I am thinking of (with the track runner) can he just not draw a black person?

Oh yeah I forgot about that, I saw Galaxy Express 009 and it was one of the more other-worldly things I've ever seen. Ghost in the Shell was alright in my opinion...something just bothered me about it when I saw it though. Aeon Flux was just some weird MTV thing I thought...Never seen Appleseed though.
