Default NES Emulator DOS mode sound

Whenever I run a DOS-compatible NES emulator in MS-DOS mode (NESticle, LoopyNES are the ones I've tried) there is no sound. The sound works fine in DOS mode with my SNES emulator, ZSNES. Also, the sound always works on my NES emulators when I run them in Windows, just not when I run them in MS-DOS without loading Windows first.

Anyone got any tips to get the sound to work? Sometimes I'm lazy and don't want to wait for Windows to load in order to load my games.

The obvious solution is not to use completely inferior NES emulators (such as the ones that run in DOS).

NESticle is a pile of ass. LoopyNES is a bit better, but still severely outdated. Give NEStopia a whirl, or FCEU or something. You'll be amazed at how far NES emulation has come

I have FCE Ultra too, but personally I like LoopyNES better. Besides, my computer is 8 years old, FCE Ultra isn't nearly as fast as LoopyNES on this computer, and I hate windows-based programs. I actually prefer running my games in DOS, it makes it feel more like I'm actually playing an NES rather than a new-age computer game.

Ah... yeah with a slower computer looks like you're stuck with the oldies.

Can't really help you out then... sorry. Hopefully someone with more DOS experience than I will be able to help.

No problem, I just want my sound to work! Also, my sound does work on ZSNES but it seems to be quieter than when I run it with Windows. I wonder why that is...

It still has its uses. Real-time tile editing FTW!
