Default iPod, you son of a bitch!

Apple sucks balls.

I have a 6th Gen iPod Classic. I'm wanting to install Rockbox, because my friend has it on his Nano, and he says it's bitchin'. In fact, he found a Game Boy emulator that was supported by Rockbox! We were sitting in English class one day, bored as hell, and he was playing Pokemon Red.

Unfortunately, Apple decided to encrypt the firmware this time around, and the guys who developed Rockbox haven't been able to crack the encryption yet. I also noticed that Apple dicided to make the 6th Gen's 'Diagnostic Mode' a shitload less functional than the 5th Gen's. I compared the menu on my dad's iPod, which is a 5th Gen with my iPod, which is 6th Gen. They removed a whole lot of diag tests. It may not matter to the average iPod user, but I'm a tech junkie, goddamn it!

Okay. I'm done with my rant.

All I can say is that 'it's being worked on'. I've been waiting for a little while longer than you (I have a 2nd generation Nano, which is similarly encrypted). Apparently the RockBox people are making some headway on it, but who knows if and when it will materialize into something. I'm certainly hoping it will..

If I may be so bold, there are better portable electronic doohickeys for playing Pokemon games on than ipods which cost plenty less.

The sky isn't blue at night.

(The Zune is just as bad, if not worse, when it comes to hackability--does that make it as bad as the iPod? Your anti-Apple zealousness is sometimes mindblowingly amazing reaperman. :P)

I didn't buy it. My parents did for my 17th birthday, so I'm not complaining. Pokemon was just an example. I'd much rather play Zelda.

No, it doesn't. Hell, the Zune (at launch, anyway) came with an episode of Red vs. Blue on it! My iPod came with jack shit on it. >=(

I'm quite content with my Zune. even if they had some Gameboy emulator for it, I wouldn't have any space. i had to mod mine with a 160 GB hard drive just to fit my library...

Why carry around a PMP if you don't use it for it's purpose...

I would much rather have something exclusively for games, like a PSP or a GP2X. I could even also play a little more than just pokemon.

I have never bought or even used an Apple product in the entire 22½ years I have lived. Strange but true.

I'm happy with my Sandisk Sansa E280. The thing is, you the battery of the ipod dies, you have to send your ipod to apple, so can change the battery for you. In that time, you can't listen to your music.

However, with my Sansa, I just call Sandisk and tell 'em my battery died. They send me a new battery, some screws and 2 screwdrivers.

Always hated Apple's customer service.

It's funny that I have over 600 songs on my iPod, all encoded in a lossless format, and I still have 45.5 GB left, even with over 150 video podcasts and 7 movies on it. Seeing as how Game Boy ROM images use about 100 Kb or so of memory, I have room for quite a few games.

P.S. Quick tip: Let your battery FULLY drain before recharging it.
