Default script extraction FFIX

Hey everyone,

I have a request concerning FFIX.

I need to analyze the script based on a linguistic issue.
Therefore I wanted to extract the script, but I failed after creating the Japanese table file and opening it with the script extractor.
Cause after that the programm asked me about several other information, which I have no idea of.
Even a friend of mine who has amazing skills in programming but never tried rom hacking didn`t have an idea.
So I would like to ask if anyone can help me further or if someone might even have already extracted that script.

thank you in advance
Epica

Googling FFIX Script brought up this site as the very first hit...

Thanks for your effort, InVerse.
I jdust noticed, I didn`t explicitly mention that I need the Japanese version.
I found some scripts like the one you linked in Japanese, but they are remarkably incomplete.
Guess, I`ll create my own by just playing it.

If you list the information that it's asking for that you don't know, someone might be able to provide you with the necessary information.

Alright. If it`s okay, I just copy the part in question of the manual.
Regarding the copyright, I add the programmer`s information:
Script Extractor 1.3
by Griffin Knodle, a.k.a. Jair, 10/30/98
E-mail:gknodle@trinity.edu

Hot to use:

Run the program. It will ask you what your table file is called. (If you're a lazy typer, you don't have to type the ".tbl" extension -- it'll put it on for you.) It will read the table file and warn you if it couldn't understand some of the entries. Then it will ask you what ROM you're reading from and what text file you want to output to. (If you just hit return, it'll assume that the files have the same name -- that is, if your table is "zelda2.tbl", it will assume you're using "zelda2.nes" and "zelda2.txt". I'm a lazy typer.)

Next it will ask for the starting address of your script dump. (If you don't know how to find text in a ROM, go to my site and work through my Relative Searcher Tutorial.) Finally, it will ask how many bytes you want to read from the ROM. Then it will extract the text (if the text file already exists, it will add on to the end) and print out a few statistics, namely how many characters it converted and how many sections and messages the script is broken into.

The first two steps worked out. But as he guessed, I don`t know how to find the text in the file, and hie page seems to be down, so I couldn`t search for that information.
And I also have no idea how many bites i have to enter, to get the whole text.
