Default Fuck you, Ratzinger.

Get the fuck out of the Church I grew up in and go back to being a Nazi, you stupid fuck. Way to alienate a massive portion of your church by selecting a racist, ultra-conservative pope, cardinals.

All ranting aside, the Catholic church's selection of Cardinal Josef Ratzinger as its new pope has me both shocked and disgusted. This has me so bothered right now that I can't find the words to write a post that summarizes my feelings better than this one. When I regain my composure, I'll take some time and write something meaningful, but in the meantime, I'd like anyone else who cares to share their thoughts.

Although it's true he was a Hitler Youth, it was compulsory, and he eventually deserted. Besides, do you really think J2P2 would keep a Nazi as his right-hand man?

He became a member of the Hitler Youth when it was compulsory in 1941. In 1943, he is drafted into the Flak. In 1944, he reachs military age and undergoes training, but misses most of the rigors of training thanks to illness. In 1945, he reaches the frontline as the Allies draw closer, and deserts. He is identified as a German soldier, and spends the rest of the war in a POW camp.

It's not like he was fucking Joseph Goebbels. He joined the Hitler Youth because he had no choice (at one point, 82% of German youth was a part of the Hitler Youth), didn't do a whole lot, and deserted rather than fighting when faced with actual battle.

I think the media and many members of the public are blowing this all way out of proportion. Debate his politcal and religious stances if you want, but don't go trying to call him a Nazi. That's plain libel.

Care to back that up with anything? Also, the church is not a democracy. You don't get to criticize your pope like you US senator.

edit: I can see why this got the response it did. It was badly worded. You can say whatever you want, but the idea that there was some big red/blue state-style liberal vs. conservative showdown here is rediculous. No big precepts of the Church were going to change weather Ratzinger or one of the other likly candidates were elected.

You don't? Funny, it looks like he just did. What, are the Pope Police going to come and drag him out of his house and take him to Pope Prison?

The great part is that all us non-Catholics get to criticize him all we want. I find it highly amusing that people would believe the Pope is infallible. Doesn't that seem a little suspicious, when a man says "Hey! I'm infallible! Everything I say is correct!"? Actually, I was having a conversation with my dad about Catholicism. We pretty much agreed that it was ridiculous and would be laughable if they weren't partially responsible for having way too many people on this planet. But then he got pissed off when I said that all Christianity was pretty ridiculous to me, which made Catholicism just about the most ridiculous thing ever. I guess he could dish it out, but couldn't take it. Sad man

P.S.: When your church makes their clergy take a vow of celibacy, you're going to attract tons of people who think that being a priest would be right for them, because they cannot act on their pedarastic or homosexual desires anyways, and if they can't, they might as well be a priest. Only problem is, they end up acting on them anyways. Good luck with your new Pope.

I can criticize him like I do the US president, whom I think is a moronic jackass who does a worse job than my cat would. See? I can criticize the pope as a head of state rather than a religious leader! Hooray!

Sure you can. You aren't Catholic.

I find it amusing that the non-Catholics who constantly spout this line have no clue how papal infallability works.

Yes, but no one is saying that. Papal infallability has been used all of 3 times in history.
I dont feel like commenting on your typical anti-Catholic pap about how the religion is rediculous and stuff about pedifile priests.
