That's ok. I'm sure people won't mind having their houses bulldozed to make room for a new Wal-Mart. Oh, wait.

"As a result, cities have wide power to bulldoze residences for projects such as shopping malls and hotel complexes to generate tax revenue."

Good.

"New London officials countered that the private development plans served a public purpose of boosting economic growth that outweighed the homeowners' property rights, even if the area wasn't blighted."

Glad they think taking someone's rights is nothing compaired to generating tax revenue.

Disgusting. I know first-hand the kind of corruption that can go on with this stuff. A few years ago some upstate-NY local authorities took by right of eminent domain the small piece of land there that was briefly owned by my parents, to make an unneeded parking lot (to this day it's barely used at all; the village already had enough parking space), a project that the village mayor (his last name, appropriately enough, is Leach) and his friends privately profited from. For example: A neighboring piece of land, that had belonged to someone else and was also taken for the parking lot, had a house on it. After the town forcibly bought the plots, Leach secretly had the village sell the house to him for $1 -- that's not a typo -- and had it lifted and trucked to his own property (probably at public expense, I imagine). Also, the lawyer who was supposed to do the title search for my parents when they were buying the land, didn't tell us about the village's plans to seize the property, which he already knew about. Why didn't he? Well, as it turned out, he had a stake in the very company that sold the land to us, another fact he neglected to divulge. Assholes.

Well, you might point out, at least when property is siezed by right of eminent domain, the government pays a fair market rate, right? Well in this case, the problem was that they refused to seize all of the property-- they took about 3/4 of it. The edge that they left (and therefore didn't initially compensate us for at all) was a nearly unusably narrow quarter-acre wedge of land just a few feet wide. My parents had to fight for years before they got compensation for lost value of that piece.

Ahahaha...between this and the flag burning, I think it's impossible for me to convey in mere words exactly how happy I am I don't live in that craptastic country of yours.
Greatest nation in the world? Only utter nutjobs disguised as "Patriots" (a pair of goose eyes seems way insufficient somehow...) could ever come up with such a ridiculous notion of "Greatest".
There's probably about 50-100 countries I'd move to before I'd consider moving to the biggest hypocrite of all countries.

Let's say you own a bunch of land in the wilderness, and being a nature-loving kind of guy, you don't exactly want loggers coming in and cutting it down. Now, what if some logging company wants to take the land and log the shit out of it? It seems that it would be possible for them to do so now.

Apply for a protected land permit. If it has anything valuable on it (wilderness, rock formations, etc.) then a permit puts it on the same level as federally owned land. My grandparents have had one for years on some island property they own.
