Default GBS load address?

I'm trying to make a new .GB file out of Donkey Kong Land's .GBS file (the one you got in your GBS page doesn't work properly). I got all necessary tools, but in the readme file (see GBS page, GBS to GB instructions) it says "Set the load address in the source to the GBS file's load address". Question is, How do I know the GBS file's load address? Can anyone help me?

http://www.zophar.net/gbs/gbsspec.zip covers the GBS file format. Or maybe that isn't what you're asking.

Check the GBS spec on that same page (http://www.zophar.net/gbs/gbsspec.ziphttp://www.zophar.net/gbs/gbsspec.zip</a>). The spec explains the GBS file header, which contains the load address you're looking for. Open up the GBS file in a hex editor and look up the right byte.

Oh, a hex editor. Any free editor you recommend?

Windhex by Bongo`. You can get it from the "My Documents" section of http://stealth.romhack.net/his website</a>. You could also try http://www.zophar.net/trans/transuti...hextion16c.zipTranslhextion</a>, but it's really not as good as Windhex.

Open up the gbs spec. It says that the load address can be found at offset 06. Open up the gbs file in Windhex. Go to Edit->Goto Offset. Type 06 into the dialog box and enter. Look for your cursor in the left pane. This is the byte at offset 06. An address in this case takes up two bytes (since the next item in the header, according to the spec, starts at offset 08). The byte at your cursor and the byte after the cursor, thus, make up the load address.

See the attached image.

And remember that the first byte is the low 8 bits (little-endian). In the example the load address is 3F58 (written 0x3F58 to indicate hex), not 583F.
