Default Overdumps/Baddumps/Pirated

> Hi, I am just wondering if there is any use for Overdumps and Baddumps or if they are jsut to complete the collections...

I really don't understand the point of overdumps. I think ideally the ROM utilities that check the ROMs should know the proper size of the ROM, and only do a check of the file up to its proper size, then trim off the bad data.
Edited by JadussD on 01/12/05 04:48 PM.

This is illegal.

Ok, I edited out the "illegal" part, my question is still a valid legitimate question however

I don't see much point in them at all. A bad dump is about as useful as a file filled with garbage. If it doesn't contain the proper game image... then it's not worthwhile.

People that feel insecure or whatever unless they have every dump might still collect them... why, I don't know... the ROMs don't have any real use (provided there's a proper dump available).

Pirate Carts were actually made for the system... although I think they were made by third party people who just like stole games and re-released them on. Most (all) pirate carts I'm aware of are like "500-in-one" collections for NES and other stupid stuff like that. I'm not real sure on this one though.

PD ROMs are the ROMs that are kind of like the "freeware" or whatever. Pirate ROMs do not qualify... since they're pirated (not really free). Sack of Flour, Heart of Gold for the NES emulator (ironically, though, it won't run on a real NES) is a good example of a public domain ROM.

I have some pirate roms. They usually are super shitty ports of SNES games Like MortalKombat2 and Street FIghter. They're good for a laugh... The only good pirate port I've ever played is a Final Fight 3 NES port. It actually kicks ass.

Have you seen the port of Sonic to the NES with Mario instead? It's actually unusually well done.

It's called Somari, if you wanted to look for it.

Most are...but the crazy thing is every once in awhile you'll find something insane like the NES port of Super Mario World. And yes, I'm serious. Just about the entire game is included.

Also, try the NES version of Sonic the Hedgehog. :P There's a version of Street Fighter that is unofficial as well.

Seen that...forgot about it though. Nice link there....it's too bad you can't access those extra levels normally. If they were given more time, they'd likely have finished the game. lol
