I really have not tried it, but perhaps VSNES may help?

I think many people use it for stuff like that. :P

It's not as much as impossible with the current knowledge available, but more as it is one big disgusting pain in the ass to get it to work, by hand. You would have to write a miniprogram that runs on the spu and plays your music routine (using the sound engine that the game has), substitute one of the pointers you your routine, fix shitloads of stuff concerning pointers, and so on until your head explodes.

The only one I have seen with a somehwta succesful sound hacking is super mario world, and evn so, some sutff still don't sound right.
