Default Back to the site

OK, so I've given up on getting the sound and video working again (I'll wait for April then have a face-off with Kubuntu Feisty and Debian Etch to see if Chihiro falls in love with either) so I'm back to the content-type problem on my site, and I'm actually done</a>.

Actually, the code you see is easily enough to get Internet Explorer working, and keeps the W3C Validators happy too. But, being as pedantic as I am, I'm staring at the self-closing tags on the IE side and being unable to forget that I should be able to dynamically change them with PHP too (e.g. changing " />" to ">"). Only I can't figure out how.

I've asked on some other boards before coming back here and got some promising looking solutions, but none have actually worked. So, does anyone have any suggestions?
