Does this look infected?

So I was at the beach the other day, foolishly climbing over some huge cement blocks that had been placed there to give the fish a place to gather or something, and I slipped on some algae. As I was falling, I instinctively put both of my hands out towards the ground to keep myself from falling face first onto the cement, and in doing so my wrist got caught against the jagged edge of one of these blocks and got scraped to hell with the full weight of my body pressing down against it as it happened.

Anyway, it's been a few days since then and it doesn't hurt as much as before, but when I woke up this morning the wound was looking a little green. Maybe it was just the pus and ointment, I don't know. I've been reguarly changing the bandaging and have been putting lots of antibiotic ointment on it, but it's still looking kinda disgusting.

http://www.zophar.net/wwwthreads/att...es&Post=289152Here's a pic (taken right after cleaning it, so it's not as bad as usual).

I've considered seeing a doctor about it, but I've been sick lately and haven't had the energy to go see one. Plus I'm an ascetic and refuse all help unless it's a matter of life and death. But does it look bad enough to warrant medical attention?

I have a question for you, is losing your hand and or wrist part of the life or death thing? If you value your hand/wrist/arm I suggest you see a doctor immediately--gangrene is nothing to fuck around with. Oh and you need to use some hydrogen peroxide along with some hand sanitizer on that bitch and wrap it up tight with some gaws (sp?).

That seems like so much work. :(

I think it's getting better, though. It's not half as swollen as it was yesterday, and it doesn't feel as soft and gushy. The skin was completely numb for a while after the incident, except for the nerve endings, of course... those still hurt. The feeling is coming back.

If it gets any worse I'll see a doctor for sure. In the meantime, the whole process is pretty fascinating to me.

At least get some peroxide on it to kill the bacteria.

Agreed, perocide is what I would have chosen first since it kills everything it touches just about and those creams only are for certain infections and will not work with a lot of stuff that could infect him.

That is most likely infected, however, you won't need to see a doctor as long as you keep dumping peroxide on it. I'd say probably 3-4 times daily, dousing it several times each time you use it. Some people use gauze to wrap it in, I personally rarely ever use the stuff, I just let the air get to it so it'll scab over soon and you won't have to worry about infection as much. The gauze thing is more personal preference, I suppose.

But yes, definitely use peroxide...

Infection for sure, and I think it's past the point where dumping peroxide would have helped it. Suck it up, go visit a doctor or clinic.

You actually might be right more than my earlier opinion. I was really tired last night so I wasn't thinking clearly. It's not gangreen but tetnus that might be a problem with a deep gash like that and going to a doctor is manditory if that turns out to be the case.
