Backing Up My Game(PS1)

I am trying to backup my copy of Tactics Ogre:LUCT to my HD as IMG using CloneCD. The Image that I get won't play in ePSXe, producing only a black screen. Using the game CD itself will work, sort've. Its worked in the past, but now when I hit "continue" from the start menu, either the "loading" screen comes up and sits there forever, or the screen goes black and only the start menu music plays.

Anway, at one point, the CloneCD error log was giving me lots of read error messages, so I cleaned the CD and I cleaned the drive. I don't get those errors anymore, but I still get errors. Namely,..

I 12:05:29 AM Reading Track 1... (Blocks 0-12182)
W 12:05:29 AM Device AOpen 12xDVD-ROM/AMH doesn't support reading of 96 bytes subchannel data (CD+G)!
W 12:05:29 AM AOpen 12xDVD-ROM/AMH is not compatible with CloneCD Read Mode "Read Subchannel Data from Data Tracks and Extra Audio Info"!
I 12:06:09 AM Reading Track 2... (Blocks 12182-18510)
W 12:06:09 AM Device AOpen 12xDVD-ROM/AMH doesn't support reading of 96 bytes subchannel data (CD+G)!
I 12:06:30 AM Reading Track 3... (Blocks 18510-34267)
I 12:07:23 AM Duration of operation: 00:01:53
I 12:07:23 AM Average Speed: 711 kBytes/s (4.04)
I 12:07:23 AM Reading finished!

It says my CD drive can't read the 96 bits of sub-channel data. I would guess I would need a different CD drive. Is there a way around this? Is there something else at fault? If not, can anyone suggest a good model of CD drive that can read sub-channel data?

You could - just maybe - go into the ripping program's options and turn off subchannel reading...

Isn't the subchannel reading necessary? Anyway, CloneCD's options seem to be limited, and doesn't include turning off sub-channel reading.

Besides, its not like the program doesn't complete the image. It does, except when I try to play it in ePSXe, all I get is a black screen. My guess is the sub-channel data is whats missing and making the image unplayable.

Use BlindWrite, rip at 4x WITH subchannel data and mount the image with Daemon Tools and ePSXe will read it fine. Now if your CD reader doesn't support all reading methods...you can't make very good images with it.

Well, it's my knowledge that some games, if the subchannels are not present and they contain extra copy protection beyond what all PSX discs have, they will not work properly. One example off of the top of my head that I can think of is Dino Crisis.

Nope, Blindwrite would abort early into the read process, but my CD drive was acting a bit wonky anyway, besides being pretty old, so I decided to order up a new one. I'll try it again with the new one when I get it. Maybe Monday, or roughly then.

Okay, that worked. New drive worked perfectly.

Thanks!
