It's a threaded system, just because you view it in flat mode doesn't mean that's how it's stored, every message must be in response to another one. You could just respond to the first message if you're lazy, I suppose.

Yeah. I personally can't stand threaded mode, but I love the ability to specifically reply to another person's post, which many message board systems won't let you do.

Sorry, that's not going to happen. It would make all threaded mode people really pissed off because replies would be all over the place.

It's not THAT hard to take an extra second of your precious time to scroll up/down the page to the person/post you want to reply to and click "Reply". Seriously.

Whoa there, cowboy. No need to flame someone over a suggestion.

some people may not agree with that, but I sure do.

Threaded mode is rediculous. It's much easier to read the posts as they come rather than reload the page over and over to go from post to post. Threads that are exceedingly long are especially horrific.

Flat mode is just superior /wwwthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

But back on the subject... an addition like this would be very excellent and useful in threaded mode since you can only reply to the one post you're reading anyway.

Do you not grasp the concept of threaded mode?

I guess not. Is it to make the user click as many links as possible? Because this lowers the number of links you have to follow... so the only way I can see someone objecting would be if they like clicking on all sorts of links.

I always find this topic stupid as I use Threaded Flat mode, or the marvelous concoction of leave it in Threaded mode then use the Flat mode button when reading new post and leave in Threaded for when there's like 1new post.

Organization. It's easy to tell at a glance exactly where all posts are in the thread in relation to one another. I don't care for flat mode myself since all it does is lump everything together into one big ass page of text...not very organized.

Although I don't agree with that... I understood that that's what the appeal was. But then I saw how this suggestion could easily apply to Threaded mode (and it could.... since there's only one post you can reply to anyway when you're in threaded mode... so why not just have the reply thing at the bottom -- why make the user click 'reply'). King Killa responded to that like it defeated the purpose if threaded mode... which is still confusing me.

They're usually side-by-side in flat mode (one after another). When they're not... it's easy to tell who's replying to who due to the subject matter... not to mention people typically quote several lines from the post they're replying to.

Chronological order is all the organization I need . I'm actually suprised you can stand threaded... I mean the number of posts you read and reply to... you must have to constantly be navigating through threads. There's no navigating in flat mode... you just click on the thread and read it... you don't have to find your way through the maze of posts not to mention the multiple page loads -- it's much faster.

ahh. ok. I had misunderstood what you meant in your first post. Sorry.

I suppose, but then I'm a 'power surfer' when it comes to this site...at any one time I usually have at least 2 or 3 threads open. :p I don't mind having my focus be on one message, having the visual representation of the whole thread just is appealing to me.
