yah..

Ugh. Today is totally lame and it's barely started. I just got a phone call from my father today that "my" car is going to be turned over into my name. My dad helped buy my first car last year, put it in his own name and just left the payments to me. The quick of the backstory is that my parents have been going through a pretty disgustingly ugly divorce for the last year, and for whatever reason, this is part of the settlement. Then my dad says that they're going to be wanting full payment when the car title is turned over and that I'm going to have to get a car loan.. Fantastic, just add that to the $14,000 loan I just got for school, and the $14,000 I'm going to have to take out next year. I'm currently unemployed (although I've been looking for a job for a few days), and I've got a shitload of bills coming in from things like my brother's wedding, monthly car payment, and parking tickets (from two states: $11 from WI, $150 from IL).. so yah.. the worst part? I should have been looking for a job over a month ago when my last web dev project ended and I wouldn't have been in such a tight spot, but because I suck at responsibility...

So yah, anyone have any advice, commiseration, free money, or good bridges to jump off of?

Advise is what you need now.

Get a job or like NIKE says, Just Do It. That's what I live by now. If somethings gotta be done I just do it. I used to waste time thinking about it and now I just do it. Thinking for learning and programming and such but work is work and that is all.

Not trying to be a hardass or anything but I had the same problem and you just have to say it's now or never and it's time I got off my ass and just did something since no one's gonna do it for me and they shouldn't have to either and just the not worrying all the time about shit I can't afford and stuff makes it all worthwhile.

Now quit hanging here all night and get out tommorrow early as possible and put in about 10 applications and if you are looking for a normal job then fuck the Resume, it just shows you waste time writing crap instead of actually getting a job and doing it and it makes them also drop you in the overqualified zone because no one in my shop used a resume to get in and I've never got a job with one myself ever and I've had probably around a * I temped for a while* 50 jobs in the past 25 years.

Not sure if it worked for Gavin but you just motivated me, since I lost my job last month I've just been sitting around making excuses and getting nothing done. I wouldn't care if I was getting personal projects done since I've got enough money right now but I'm not, I'm just being lazy again...

Actually, I don't really have any advise, since I don't really know what to say....

Yah I know you're right. I've been moping around doing nothing but thinking about how it's going to suck to have a job, and how I have so much to do.. I guess tommorow is the real test. I'm going to try to get up early and see how many applications I can get in. Thanks for the pep talk

Good for you Gavin, and a bonus with DKK to. Damn it feels good knowing I helped you two out a bit with the peptalk.

Remember jobs are like women, they want you more if they think you don't need them. Here's a little tidbit, if you write something like " I don't really need to work since I'm finacially all set, I just like to work to just have something to do. " This kind of things to employers is gold since this means that person is a doer, someone that won't be sitting on there ass day and night goofing around on a computer and being a lazy fuck instead of working, but we won't tell them otherwise will we. This does work with a lot of employers. It will also probably keep you from having the asshole type boss hire you. The asshole boss is the one that thinks threatening to fire you and kill your only source of income is a good employee motivator. He is also usually the cheapest bastard out of all the people you apply to. But if he thinks you don't need the money his motivational *skillz* are useless since you can just look at him like he's nuts.

Remember that friends and your parents friends can easily get you in just by mentioning your name, I've gotten many good jobs that way.

employer's response?

"Great, then you won't mind minimum wage! Glad to have you on board!"

Anyone that even attempts to pay minimum wage needs to die. It's just disrespectful to even say your only worth the minimum amount we're required to pay by law. An employer that pays anyone that does more than sit and do nothing is more or less an asshole.

I couldn't have agreed more with what you said. Minimum wage is the employer's weapon against workers. "You are a good worker, Smith. Keep up the good work and i'll make it 2 cents above minimum wage!"

Re: employer's response?

The point of my joke was just that if you say that the money isn't important to you, they might feel they can get away with not paying you as much as they should. =P
