XBOX 360s crashing like crazy?

> I'm glad I didn't run out on launch day and try to buy one!

Only a moron would buy a console as soon as its released, and at this time of year just shows pure stupidity. I don't care how much you want it, if you can't wait a month or two for the demand to drop you really shouldn't have one in the first place.

I love the parents on TV that say they're waiting in line to get it for their kids... why don't you just get an assload of games for what they already own with that money? I bet they'll have more fun (Unless, of course, they just want it as a status symbol)

Hmm.

Well, I think that a given percentage of all consoles shipped are going to be received DOA. We don't know the exact numbers, we only know of defective units based on the people who have complained in that one thread. I don't think the percentage of units experiencing problems is any higher than the percentage of PS2 units received defective when it launched years ago.

The number of defective units will seem higher when all people having problems post in the same place. That's just the nature of support threads in forums. The same goes for customer service: You hardly ever remember exemplary service, but you will remember the shit-tastic experiences for years.

I am in no way sticking up for Microsoft... their marketing strategy for this launch was stupid. They're not making a penny on <a href=http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Game-Console-IN-HAND-Xbox360_W0QQitemZ8236391851QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem>shit like this</a>, but their launch strategy encouraged it. <img src=smilies/mystery.gif>

Overall, it's a lot of marketing fluff and very little deliverable.

I'm going to be waiting until

- Systems are widely available
- At least one good RPG (my preferred genre) is available
- I can buy a system used... delivering the profits to the hands of GameStop, for example.

No plans to get one in the immediate future. Too expensive.

But I guess it's a good thing they come with a warranty, JUST IN CASE OF THESE CIRCUMSTANCES.

Heh...Almost said circumcision...<img src=smilies/laff.gif>

Admittedly, I still haven't bought a PSP, because there aren't any games I can't "live without" yet. When Mega Man X comes out on it, that may change...

And same for the Xbox 360. I liked it just fine, and I like Call of Duty 2, but I can play the same game on my regular Xbox. Well, something -similar- to it.

Though I may break down and get a Revolution on launch day, just 'cause I love Nintendo. <3

Meh. Console gaming died for me after the PS1, so I'm not affected.

Still, pretty bad stuff if this is the case.

This is exactly why I wait until new consoled come to the pawn shop. Usually by then there are more games, plus I get the consoles for quite a bit cheaper. I do the same with my games, I scrounge flea markets and pawns hsops and used game bins at EB for a good deal. Why spend wads of cash on it new when you wait and get an almost new copy for substancially cheaper?
When I do buy new, I wait till the price drops to $20 or less, like Front Mission 4, thus saving me money. I'm not a cheapskate, I just prefer getting the better bargain for my hard earned cash.

Man, I hope that when we get them in-store they aren't going to have these problems...otherwise I'm probably going to have to deal with some irate customers when they find out they can't exchange it for a new one since we're only getting sent six of them. >_<

Come to think of it, I don't think I've had a Nintendo console/handheld fail on me yet, even on launch day.

Well actually, my Laser on my GameCube cut out after a year, the rumble pack died in a week, the new controler nolonger has a strong up push on the anologe, and my SNES second controler had a peice broken that held the cable in it so after 5years of triping on it it broke. Ofcourse only the laser cuting out was a real problem, and lets say it was a first generation launch console and Nintendo had no experiance with lasers and it did take a year to brake. So in comparison to Sony and Microsoft it's nothing because they have no excuse in things like that because they create lots of other things containing the parts that brake.
Well that and I just assume controlers wear out when over used, which I'm pretty sure they do.

Unless they turned around and flipped it to someone else on eBay for $1,000+. Then that moron is a frickin genius. I wish I would have gotten one of the first shipment.

Heh, ok, maybe I'm just lucky. I mean, my old chunky B&W Original GB didn't even break when I accidentally dropped it into a mud puddle while that old AC Adapter/Battery Pack was attatched. The battery pack did short out however.

Then I have dropped my DS at several times with no ill effects (although a DS card did fly out of it one time which scared the hell out of me :p). Just ask Rachel, I happened to be talking to her on the phone at the time and I made this really girly "EEEEEP!" noise. lol

My friend's N64 fried on him, when he took it back to the store the guy said it was a flaw in the first releases, but I don't know the accuracy of that claim. Most people I know, like me, picked the N64 up shortly before its demise.

Oh, and my SP had two dead pixels out of the box, but I wasn't that concerned about it.

i was at eb games the other day and i was playing the call of duty demo, and the same thing happened within 2 seconds of starting the game.... it looked just like the shot of that poor kid's xbox

Tell them the general concensus: hang the PSU from a string or stick it on a high stand where it can get lots of ventilation, so the PSU's vents aren't obstructed by anything. See if that helps.
