VGM for Genesis: Suggestions

Don't you think there should be a VGM section for Sega Genesis Music? After all, it has better features than the GYM format (like looping). Also, for the maker of the VGM at smspower.org, don't you think there should be a more compact format than the VGZ (the G-zipped VGM), based on the RAR format?

After making my own VGZ version of "Sonic the Hedgehog", I tried packing it all in a RAR package, but it didn't compress much, So I tried uncompressing them all to VGM, and compressed them again to RAR. The whole 23.1MB set is now all compressed in a 0.97MB package. See the whole difference?

Attached is the RAR file with the VGM set to know what I mean. The new compressed format should have the extension VGR (RAR'd VGM), IMO.

I'd be in full support of this. I know some guys who seem interested, and I could try to get some files out of them to help.

Well that's because, if I'm not mistaken, vgZ is a zipped VGM file....so that'd be like RAR'ing a zip file...none, or practically no more compression would be found out of it. Although as for a newer format, I think RAR beats zip hands down any day, so I'd be in favor of that.

Speaking of this though, isn't there some sort of a new format? I remember the Gens Plus fellow was creating it, and he and Stef joined forces. I wonder how that's going?

That would be cool. By the way, I re-sorted the Sonic soundtrack plus made the Sonic 2 set as well. Should I email them or attach them here?

True, now if someone would only finish it.

Word.

Rip formats are the ONLY way to go. I'm not even satisfied with SPC -- I'd much rather have a rip SNES format.

God only knows what audio tracks are hidden in SNES Roms.
