Man, they got that shit locked down...I tried hitting up zophar for the first time today to solicit some HTML help...BAM, "Your attempt to access a forbidden site has been logged and is in violation of the terms and agreement of network usage parts 6.23, 6.24, 6.25"

You should let management know that not having free reign over the net is detrimental to programming. What happens when you want to google something for a second opinion?

When I asked him about me always referencing help files and googling stuff, one of the foremost PHP experts in the WORLD told me that he does that too....and all the good programmers do that.

Well, we do have access to google and any "technical" forums...like javaworld and sun's official forums and documentation, but anything "off the beaten path" is pretty much restricted. Oddly enough I can't get to homestarrunner.com but I can still get to cad.com, vgcats, penny-arcade.com and the like....aparently if its just images, they dont give a shit, but if it can hose their bandwidth they get pissed....or if you try to access a web board about that isn't directly related to programming....bastids.

That's dumb. Many times when I have a programming problem and google it, I find a good answer on some tiny obscure board or another.

You guys make me giggle like a school girl. Is that hawt?

Swampy is right. At our school with the Maine laptop program, we can't use iTunes, or iChat, or pretty much anything that doesn't suck. The only good programs are Fish and Quicktime. Some sites at school are blocked for "education". How stupid is that? Isn't a school for education?

Anyway, thank god for flash drives.

Um, it is very reasonable. They want you at school to learn, not buy music, listen to music, watch movies, download roms and mp3s, view pornographic material, and so on and so forth.

They do not want the computer as a distraction in school. I do not see anything wierd with that. Everything you listed is a distraction, not a learning tool.

To a 14-year-old, everything he listed is a necessity of life. I weep for the future.

The high school I went to didn't block sites. They just blocked the entire internet. Yeah, all of it. Well, they didn't really 'block' it, they just tried to watch people to make sure they weren't on the internet and punished those that were caught. Confident that they had blocked the internet to all 800 students and that none of those ever used floppy disks either, they figured a virus scanner wasn't needed as no virus could ever get through this.

It's hard to put how stupid all of this was into words. Needless to say, it all failed miserably as the older students were getting onto the internet on the sly, and a virus got in which wrecked the entire network with nothing to stop it. I noticed they had a virus scanner after that.

Yeah...and education doesn't consist of itunes or ichat. I'm talking about a grown man doing complicated programming.

Nah, my sister and her friends are that age. Their pretty good, even the not so bright ones. They do not care about stuff like that. They just cannot wait until the school breaks.

Soniczip is just young for his age i think. I always get the impression that he is 10 or 11 from his posts.

Actually, on the last day we had our MLTI laptops this year, I finally found out how to use iTunes and iChat.
Macintosh HD:Library:Receipts
Heh heh. All their programs are belong to me.
