Sigh!(when will they get things right

I am using Windows Media Player 10 and I recently Installed a New sound card, the uh Aureal vortex 2 8830 so now, WMP10 wont play any file except for audio-less videos.
I tried going back to the crappy built in sound, I tried reinstalling WMP10, I tried different Sound card drivers.
Im stuck, yet again with a microsoft mistake.

I know you probably don't want to go through with this, but back up your data and re-install Windows. If you still have problems with the new sound card, try contacting the manufacturer.

Shure its not WMP and not the card itself? You may need to disable the onboard one.

I did. the card is fine I tested it on 3 other computers and I want to keep it seeing its the best one I have

The card (and the standard as well) is no longer supported. I don't think there's a driver for XP-2K unless it comes from a 3rd party sound card manufacturer.

Try this:

1. Go to Control Panel
2. Got Sounds and Audio Devices
3. Go to the Audio Tab\
4. Check if the proper device is list under sound playback
