I really don't see why anyone would need to make a test post unless they were changing their avatar and they weren't sure if it would resize/remote-link correctly.
You can see whether or not your signature change worked in the post preview. If it hasn't worked, keep previewing and changing. When you get it right, just go back to browsing, and don't actually submit the new post.
