Let's not forget the others before her that took such actions, as she was in no way the first. However, it was that particular incident that really caught people's attention and helped to spark that particular civil rights movement. She was an inspiration to those who sought after nonviolent methods of protest, such as sit-ins, which often ended in violence towards those seaking that which should be a given right in society; racial justice.
