Both.

Both are great systetms, there's no clear-cut either/or situation. Also, the PSP's "more powerful" shtick is overblown. Due to bus contention issues stemming from the CPU, GPU, and APU all using the same memory area, a lot of CPU power is lost, enough that it's effectively a DS with very slightly pumped-up graphics (and filtered textures). Both have great games. However, if given only one choice, I'd recommend the PSP. Its multimedia capabilities are pretty nice, and dead-pixel issues aside (which I maintain are far less prevalent than the gaming media wants you to think) the display is extremely nice.

They're both worth getting. If you're only going to get one, look at the games. What games that are out now do you want? What games that are coming out do you want? I bought the DS because of WW Touched! and Animal Crossing DS. The PSP...eh...Lumines is fun, but there's nothing else even remotely alluring to me about it.

I guess the PSP also has the added ability of playing media, so if that's a factor for you, be sure to consider it (since its price tag will easily remind you that you're paying for more than a game system).

my ideas was more on the PSP, but DS has great games... getting both would be nice... but expensive choice...
anyone knows if sony fixes de PSPs with dead pixels? or trade it for a new one fixed? those pink dots are really annoying...

If you don't have a gba allready I'd recomend the ds becouse it's backwards compatible, so you have a lot of great titles to choose from from the start.
Also the psp seems a bit scetchy right now so I'd wait and a few months and se how it turns out before considering to buy one.

Well, the DS had that same problem back at the launch...Nintendo has been very reasonable about fixing it if it occurs though.

As for my opinion...it certainly is true that the PSP is more powerful than the NDS (although I don't think anything has come close to pushing it's hardware yet). As far as the actual machines though, I choose NDS. The PSP doesn't seem like much that hasn't been done before to me, but the Nintendo DS just excites the hell out of me. It already feels more innovative than the PSP is and it's just the tip of the iceberg. Plus I can run homebrew stuff on it already and it has a big community already because of the GBA's huge homebrew community.

Plus any of the cool stuff on the PSP you have to spend quite a bit more money for...like movie watching. 20 - 30 bucks for a movie that I've already bought on DVD? No thanks. You might say "Hey, you can watch MPEG-4 on it though!" Yeah, but then if you want really good quality I'm sure you would need a much larger Sony Memory Stick Duo than what comes with it. Then you have to give Sony at least another 50 - 70 bucks. >_>

I dunno about you, but I'm not made out of money. Anyway, the DS hardware, although less powerful than the PSP, just makes me feel like there is more room for innovation on it than on the PSP, and the possibilities are amazing. Like, this isn't that amazing, but there is an early Ti-83 calculator emulator for the DS already with touchscreen calculator input. I mean, it's not like SNES emulation or something, but that is a kind of emulator that would not work well on GBA, or on the PSP I don't think, and I like that idea.

u got a good point there... and the extras on the psp arent as significant as they seem, it can play dif kinds of media, but im starting to think that the homebrews for the NDS will help to get those extras to the DS too... or most of them... and i'm not made of money either:p u really made me think about a DS seriously...
thank you so much for the help

There actually is a Nintendo branded media player add-on of some sort for, I believe, both the GBA and DS.

Also, if PDA style functionality interests you at all, I think Nintendo has licensed PalmOS for a DS port of some sort to be released before too long.

Hm...I think this is just a rumor, from what I've heard. Sounds kinda fishy to me, but I'm sure someone will make some kind of PDA functionality eventually, if not Nintendo.

Oh, and to adoken, certainly. :) I like defending the DS, heh. Seems like too many are like OMG OMG teh graphics un PSP are teh bettarh! and don't think about the other features of the DS.

I hate questions like this—and not just because of the spelling.

Buy whatever system has the most games you want to play. Who gives a shit how powerful it is if it doesn't have what you want to play.

and others don't care much one way or the other because we don't have the money anyway.

The last new game system I bought myself was the SNES. My PS2 was a combined chirstmas present from all my family and friends. Just about every game was used or I waited untill the price was down to $20.

And others of us don't care because games have been shit since the mid-90s anyway.

no shit? that might be my only reason to buy a gaming console, as i'm turing 30 next month and have all but lost my gaming zeal. but if i can sport a gaming hand-held at work for pda functions? hell yeah i'm all for it!

That made me laugh, if only because my mom is watching some old movie with Tori Spelling in it. Oh yea, and I like the thought of choosing the DS because it's backwards compatible.

Of the two, only the PSP has games I'm actually interested in.

I've tried a DS, and unfortunately, the touch scren just seems gimicky. It's more of a pain in the ass than anything. For instyance, the Metroid DS game is really awkward to play, compared to the Prime games.

Developer support seems almost nil, and I can guarantee it will drop off entirely once the third gen Gameboy is released (which is what I would recommend holding out for). I would liken the DS to the Atari Lynx or the TurboExpress.

i thought the DS was the 3rd gen gameboy (since the compatability layer for the gba exists) and if you really think that the loss of GB/GBC is way too much, there is a mono GB emulator on the GBA (which should work on the DS)

but really, besides the very few good games on the GB (LoZ, the FF series) most of them seem almost minigame-ish now comparing them to the GBA or even the GBC.

the only thing that irratates me about the DS is the lack of the EXT ports, so you cant use the SNESADVANCE snes conversion kit* on it.

(* http://www.snesadvance.org/images/snespad.jpg yes it works, and no its not fake. check the forum for answers on it)

even so, it is the 89/92 that i'm interested in, gimme an emulator or workalike of those and i'll consider buying a DS.

Nintendo has stated that the DS is their "third pillar" (Gameboy and their consoles being the first two), and that an official successor to the gba is in the works.
