Why do websites do this? I can understand file upload sites to put a delay so that you have time to see their ads.... but sourceforge? Why the 5 second wait for the file to start downloading? I mean it's already bad enough you have to go through like 4 links to get to the actual download.

Other sites do it to. Who's the genius that comes up with these ideas? "Hey... the user obviously wants to download this file... but let's put a 5 second delay in there anyway... maybe they'll want to change their mind or something." Of course sourceforge is nice enough to give you a link to the download at the top so you can skip the waiting bullshit -- but some sites aren't so nice. Some even trick you by putting a "if the download doesn't start, click here" link at the top -- which doesn't go to the download, but rather goes to like a page to report site errors.

So seriously... what the fuck.

You just answered your own question. Even Sourceforge had ads. If you don't like clicking through so many links on Sourceforge, just pick a preferred download server.

Winner. I use it with Adblock Filterset.G Updater as well. It's a rare day when I get pestered by ads now.
