my old power supply's fan had been dead for 3 weeks so i was running the machine without the cover...can you say LOUD? the scsi drives were making my ears bleed...

so a friend hooked me up with a 400 watt dual fan power supply for $40...i was desperate.

the second fan is on the side of the power supply, right next to my cpu. works awesome. the temp of the box is 91 F....almost 10 degrees lower than with the old power supply. sucks the cpu's hot air right out.

Very cool.
I'm running my entire computer setup on a 200W power supply.
I can't add any more drives, or the comp won't turn on.

PS, isn't this more of a "Tech Talk" subject than a "Diaries" topic?

i wasn't aware that my diary had to be a particular subject...after all, it's MY diary.

He's got a point, Merk. Anyway, the 400 watt has a kickass fan, but I've got one that runs off a pci slot. My computers have never overheated. Hell, I toss beers in there to keep 'em cool. :)

My computer runs kinda hot. I've got a shitty case, it has no space on the rear for a fan, and the one space in front for a fan is blocked by the front panel. So i've removed both side panels and i've got a small utility fan pressed up against the side. It runs okay with the fan, around 38-42 CPU, and 25-27 ambient. . Under load, the CPU goes up to around 48-53, and the ambient goes up to 27-29. Now, if i put the side panels back on, and put my machine under full load using CPUBurn, the cpu will go up to more than 60 celsius, and the ambient climbs up to 32 celsuis or more. I must point out though, that my machine sits near to a baseboard heater, and i've usually got the heat on, so that probably counts for a few degrees

WD, I know about heat. 90% of the time, that's all we have down here. My computer hasn't been in a case in three years. Don't care how it looks. Care how it runs. :)

I wouldn't care about it too much, but I have two ferrets, and however the hell they do it, but they get up on my table and one time, when i was just half awake, i caught one going inside my case! that scared me. So now i'm looking for a better cooling solution

Pbbbt!
I'm running 3 hard drives in my box, a 20 gig, 8 gig and old fujitsu 4 gig.
My fan in the PSU died. FIne, replaced the fan, can't afford a new psu. Then the CPU fan died, then I put a 6800rpm fan onnit, and overclocked it more, you wanna hear LOUD?!

:D

I think I saw an article in PC Gaming about water cooling a case. If I find it, I'll let you know what issue. P.S. I've got a couple of real small cats who try the same thing. :)
