Is anyone playing the Wi-Fi? Maybe we can swap friend codes. :)

How does that work? Is that like a portable XBOX Live type of multiplayer? If like I had MK for the DS and we both are online at the same time we can play each other from anywhere?

If that's the case then that fucking rocks.

Actually, I was wondering if anyone here had Animal Crossing DS....I don't have a lot in my town yet since I just got it, but I want to see if my internet is fast enough for this...

eh, and can you spare a guy some Bells? Or some furniture? <img src=smilies/cry.gif>

basically, at least with MK DS (Animal Crossing doesn't have the random play thing), you can either get matched up with anyone currently online, or you can match up with your friends if you have their friend codes...each DS gets assigned a unique one (not sure if it's per game or not).

So yeah, if your buddies are online, and you check Nintendo WFC, it's multiplayer a-go-go.

Getting it (for my mom) tomorrow, chances are I'll have a character before the night is up. I couldn't get ahold of my friend or we'd have it right now.

Basically, it's tied to your DS with your copy of Mario Kart, from what I understand. Meaning, my 'friends code' will probably change if I actually buy a copy of Mario Kart, rather than just rent it.

Somewhat. You can't talk in-game (yet) or add friends in-game (yet), but yeah, as long as you've got a wireless router, we can play each other at any time.

Cool. If you wanna try it out, let me know. :) It seems like in Animal Crossing, you can open your gates (connect to Nintendo WFC and say "hey, I'm accepting visitors!") and anyone who has your friend code and that you have added can choose to visit your town....I find this rather cool, since if you just left your town gates wide open most of the time your friends could randomly visit just whenever, heh.

That was pretty coool...and now I know that even on this connection that is connecting at 28.8 kbps I'm not laggy...maybe if more were connected than one person, but still...cool. :)

Heh, but it worked pretty well mostly..if you think that's bad, when it dropped your connection you must have been in the middle of shaking a tree, since it looked pretty much like you were humping the tree....I was thinking wtf is he doing?

Haha, I wish I could have seen that. Yeah, I was shaking a tree when it gave me the blue screen.

Oh yeah, are you using the USB dongle or do you have some kind of wireless router rigged up with your dial-up connection?

Actually, I have a PCMCIA card....it's one of the Ralink ones you can use with the custom drivers to send demos to your DS. It so happens there are also drivers made for it that come with a program called SoftAP, letting it act as an access point, something my onboard laptop wireless can sadly not do. Seems to have pretty good range, I can go all over my house with it.

One thing I want to know, is their only one code per town or per person? Doesn't matter either way, I just want to know.

Thats what I am doing. It kicks ass becuase I don't have to buy a router

Not really. It's determined when you first connect your DS to the WFC service, and then it's stored in the DS after that. So, if you rent it, then connect again with a purchased copy, you'll have the same Friend Code. It's (from what I understand) created when the DS connects, and is generated against the MAC address of the device. I haven't tried clearing my WFC data yet, so I dunno if it changes, however. Each copy of Mairo Kart, outside of the SRAM when you play, is identical, though.
