...where Audigy is so fed up with the asshattery of workmates that the decision to move to California to work is once again in the forefront, and actually possible this time. Two SQA guys left in the last few weeks, and they're really hurting for the headcount (SQA = software quality assurance)

Coolest thing... I brought it up to my bf over dinner, and he basically said "I'm going to kick your ass if you don't apply" ;D that was one of my biggest worries, really... him getting all sad and/or hesitant. See, he graduates in December... so he'd have to stick it out back here all alone 'til he were in a position to move. ;) I'm sure it would be no problem at all.

So tomorrow I'm going to call a meeting with the corporate SQA head and see what's up about these rumored positions up there. I'm so ready for it. The california guys think the world of me, and probably would rather have me join them up there than hire some guy who might suck. :D

What I'm not ready for, however, is amassing probably a good $3000 at least to get started out there (first month's rent + deposit + whatever else to survive for a month or so until the money starts coming). Does the Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley area have any form of public transportation? It's going to be ages before I can probably afford a car if I end up there...

So much to think about. x_x

I don't really have any advice, but I wish you good luck with applying and everything.

You ought to see if they'll pay for your relocation. I'm sure they can deduct it as an expense and they may even set you up with a place to live with the deposite already paid for by them. That is if they think your talents are worth it. Never hurts to ask. <img src=smilies/cwm11.gif>
 
Well... given the fact that I'm already part of a much cheaper SQA team out here in the boonies, the chance that they'll pay for even part of my relocation is slim.

I had a chat with my remote boss this morning, and found out that the SQA manager mentioned above will be going to lunch with him today, so he said he'd bring it up. I'll know if they're even going to consider filling those spots in a few hours.

Well, a formal announcement went out to the test leads yesterday regarding the position... I've been trying to get ahold of the SQA head since then. Today I call and he picks up his phone finally :eek: Our conversation went something like this:

"hey, it's (blahblah), have a few minutes?"
"actually, no, sorry. don't worry, i'll schedule an interview with you next week"
"oh, sure, no problem! just send me a mail and let me know"
"ok *laughs* sorry, i have 3 people standing at my door"
"no problem! talk to you then"

so... at least the ball is still moving.

good luck! i live in california (orange county) and i love it... though i've lived here almost my entire life and i'm ready for something different. looking at colorado myself.

you might as well see about them paying for relocation if you get the job. what could it hurt just to check and find out? could be VERY worth it...
