I see what you mean, and you seem to be correct. I apologize for that.

That still doesn't change the fact that he ignored everything else ;P

I know, I know. I just don't get the hype: Oh my god ! You killed the site !!. We're getting older, we have others priorities, we can't spend as much time on the site as we did before. No ones really guilty for that, it had to happen.

If we're going to argue over semantics, so be it. This site did stop functioning. In its current state, this site is an archive. In that sense, this site is doing fantastic. What an archive it is -- people still download things here all the time.

But looking at the original goal of the site, that is, to be an emulation news site, THIS SITE HAS FAILED. There is no more news. There are no more updates. The opposite of "failed" is "successful," and while this site was once a successful news site, I hardly see how anyone can consider a static archive a "successful" news site.

Now I'm going to stop arguing about this and worry some more about the damn layout. Bitching about my being pithy and the lack of my political correctness to respect those that want to think that ZD is still as great now as it once was doesn't make site layouts.

I'll drink to that.

<u>http://www.zophar.net/wwwthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=suggest&Number=293334&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&vc=1You're the one</a></u> who started arguing semantics right out of the gate. Or did you forget that already? /wwwthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

Kind of strange for someone to actually link to dictionary sites then turn around and tell everyone else not to argue semantics.

You also argued poorly, since <u><a href"http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/failure">the very site you linked to regarding 'failure'</a></u> has a definition which confirms that Swampgas did, indeed, use the word properly and didn't misunderstand anything in your initial post.

You said:
<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>

the reason ZD failed

<hr></blockquote>

By definition #4 of 'failure'... if you say something has failed, then you can also say it's a failure:

<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>

Main Entry: fail·ure
Pronunciation: 'fAl-y&r
Function: noun
-snip-
4 : one that has failed

<hr></blockquote>

Therefore:
To say "one has failed" is synonymous with "one is a failure"

I already brought this up on a less wordy post <u>http://www.zophar.net/wwwthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=suggest&Number=293341&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0here</a></u>, but it seems to have gone unnoticed (or you just chose to ignore it?)

Trust me, I've seen them. I've been trying to look for inspiration in a variety of places. Off-hand, I know I've looked at http://www.digg.com/digg</a>, http://slashdot.org/Slashdot</a>, http://www.chronocompendium.com/Chrono Compendium</a>, http://www.dcemu.co.uk/DCEmu</a>, http://www.ngemu.com/NG Emulation</a>, http://www.romhacking.net/Romhacking.net</a>, http://www.starmen.net/Starmen.net</a>, http://www.genvid.com/moonstruck/Moonstruck</a>, http://bluedragon.tv/Blue Dragon.tv</a>, http://www.ocremix.org/OC Remix</a>, http://www.rpgfan.com/RPGFan</a>, http://www.rpgdreamer.com/RPG Dreamers</a>, http://www.rpgamer.com/RPGamer</a>, http://www.vgmuseum.com/Video Game Museum</a>, http://www.mmhp.net/Mega Man Home Page</a>, http://www.planet-megaman.com/Planet Mega Man</a>, http://www.flyingomelette.com/Flying Omelette</a>, http://www.ffcompendium.com/Final Fantasy Compendium</a>, http://www.lunar-net.com/LunarNET</a>, http://www.goemon.info/Mystical Website of Goemon</a>, ....And that's all I can think of, for inspiration. I'm not trying to find ZD's layout in another site, of course, but I need something to get started -- something that's just like, "Hey, I like this idea." And then I can go from there.

*whew*, quite an exhaustive list (to remember, that is). But going back through them all a second time is refreshing.

It has been said a while ago that the staff doesn't have as much time as they did before so they can't update the site.

ZD is all about the message board

Quit bitching and do some work if you're not happy.

It's just a fucking web page, it's not like your life depends on it.

Thank you

What we have here is a problem with the misinterpretation of textual context. But I will argue no more.

First of all, I would like to compliment you guys on the site, it's really amazing, and I've been coming here since 2000 for all my emulation needs as far as programs go, and don't plan on getting them from anywhere else too soon.

Secondly, I was wondering if this site IS just message board, and the emulation aspect is just archive, or if the main site is still a part that is being monitored.

I was wondering what legal troubles you have encountered (if any) by having this site, and how much work goes into keeping a site like this running for so many years.

I don't want to see Zophar die (the emulation part of it for sure), and would like to request that I be contacted before you guys take that part down (if ever), because I would gladly take a shot at trying to run it :)

I know I'm going to get flamed for this post, but meh.

Wow, I was wondering why I hadn't seen ElementZero in nearly 10 months despite this topic saying he was still here was right at the top of the pile, then it hit me why! Some idiot has bumped the topic with a completely irrelevant reply he decided to put in an ancient topic for some reason! Another mystery solved!

Oh God no. If you've been getting all your emulators from here, then your collection is probably looking pretty mouldy by now. Go somewhere else.

There have been many proposals for redesigns/revivals, but none have got off the ground for reasons that I decline to comment upon.

Very few legal troubles from what I can recall (emulators are legal, it's the ROMs that are troublesome), and a decent amount of work.

It won't be going down. SwampGas tried that once, and got bombarded with e-mails asking why, offering money in case it was needed, and so on.

> I know I'm going to get flamed for this post, but meh.

Just remember that you'd have faired better had this been a new topic rather than a totally irrelevant reply to a long-dead topic.

Only one I can think of is that whole thing when the ZDStore opened and it had those Flash Advance carts (I think it was the Flash Advances, anyway), and Nintendo pretty much threw a hissy fit.

I know the http://www.eff.org/EFF</a> got involved in some fashion (since flash carts, though they can promote piracy have legitmate uses as well), but I don't remember anything else. Must be it turned out at least sort of ok since the site is here still.

I wrote nintendo an email requesting them to show cause and they never responded. The rest of the inventory was sold and that was that.

Ah ok, thanks Swamp. I couldn't remember quite how things ended, too many years have passed I suppose. :)
