How will I know if my Windows was registered or not?

I recently bought a used copy of Windows ME. I plan to sell it - I just need to find out if it was previously registered or not.

Is there a way to finding out if it's already registered without, you know, actually -registering- the product? The item seems pretty new, I just want to make sure. Thanks.

You paid for a copy of Windows ME? Like... more than a dime? And you're expecting to sell it for enough money that someone will care if it works or not?

But no, Microsoft doesn't provide any way to determine if a product key has been used.
