so, just curious, but has Firefox (+ extensions) screwed up anything but itself for anybody or has anybody heard of this happening before?

me and a wintroll were talking and he was saying that he doesnt want his business to support anything but IE because thats the only product they can guarantee to not screw up a computer.

they are just assuming this because its a commerical product, but i know reality is the oppersite. anyway, i wanted to know the answer to this question before i say for sure that firefox is less harmful than ie so i dont make an ass of myself if he finds something on the internet that shows this isnt true.

No experiences now, but I'm sure that some extentions might conflict with others, especially by defaults.

I installed it on another's PC and they told me that on streaming or active pages (bad explanation... ie: Yahoo games or Nickalodeon games) Firefox closes itself down. Don't know what the problem is, can anyone here help me?

I'm not sure whether or not I did install them, but I did now. That is not the problem though. There's a spyware on the system that I can't get rid of called poppupers.com. This spyware can't be deleted by AdAware (and I can't use Spybot without it freezing up) and it pops up every now and then. It pops up through the default browser, it opens up on the nearest browser window, (since I'm using Fire Fox) gets blocked and then restores to a two-by-two inch window. I don't think I can allow the browser to ignore it because I think the address changes each time it opens up. It's a real pain in the ass. Any suggestions?

Yes, your a big Linux fan, but I can't install an operating system like that, too advanced. Someone would come running to me all the time because the settings or configuations are wrong. I might be getting a new PC at my mom's house, I might try out Linux.

PS: I like Windows 98 better than XP; Win 2000 is just plain gay because it can't run DOS programs, and XP has a whole bunch of bullshit downsides.

No, but now that I've seen it, what's the difference between that and regular?

The first idea that poped into my head for this problem was to reinstall Windows, but I don't have a disk.

my mum does this anyway on windows, so it doesnt really matter about putting it on her computer.

but yeah, i was just kidding

you could always just install it and just never tell them the root password, that way they couldnt screw it up.

No, I've heard a lot from Linux, but isn't it an operating system based almost upon DOS and prompt stuff? I'm not educated enough to deal with that stuff. I asked for a computer programming book for Christmas; maybe then I will learn.

ok, first of all, dos and unix were being made at almost the same time. they are both command prompt driven. but even win xp has the ability to be driven from command prompt.

however, neither can truly be called derivative of each other. actually, it is windows that is derivative of mac and dos, which mac is a derivative of xerox or something like that.

anyways, x-windows is it's own thing entirely as far as i am aware, and it allows you to operate a unix-based system from a gui. as long as there are programs written to do what you want that use a x-windows based gui :)

Safe Mode for FireFox means no frills....it's comparable to Window's SafeMode in a way...just the minimum needed to browse the 'Net, no extensions...good for diagnosing problems that could be caused by conflicting extensions and what not, or uninstalling an extension that is causing problems for you.

I've had only one problem with it - when you open something in a new tab, if you try to type anything under another tab it'll keep cancelling out your cursor. Probably not an issue if you're on broadbandm but on my 56k I have to wait for the tabbed page to finish downloading before I can type.
I love FireFox, I only wish I had begun using it earlier.

What OS? I'm running XP and I don't think I've ever noticed this happening to me (if I'm understanding your problem correctly).

It might be a little thing bug that has to do with the configurations n' stuff on your operating system. On my computer, the icon on the top left is missing, so it always shows up as a paper with a windows on it.

What it does is when you open a page in a new tab and try to regain focus in your original tab if the new tab is still loading the site it'll automatically take focus back, meaning I lose my typing curser. This is on WIn98. I have WInXP installed on multiboot but I never used that for the internet.
