Brazilian opinion
wahahahahahaha I can't believe I missed this topic, man... After all, I might be the only Brazilian here or at least the only active for now...
Brazilians never call our language Brazilian. It's Portuguese. You can actually call it Brazilian Portuguese as a more detailed linguistic “dialect†name.
I asked my mother more info about it since she’s a professor in the Portuguese Language area. She told me that Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese are the same language because they share the same structure, syntax, prepositions usage, etc. The difference between the two is basically cultural which leads to the differences in phonology and vocabulary. But if I get a book from Portugal or Angola I’ll be able to read it without any problem. You guys can also read texts in British English, right? Because, although there are a lot of differences in vocabulary and pronunciation, both British and American English are the same in structure.
(although I have to say it’s very funny to listen to European Portuguese… I bet you understand…)
