Got into a car accident today.

And my Nissan Maxima is totalled. My brakes went out and I rear ended a Suburban so not only did my car get totalled but the freaking police officer gave me a ticket. Since my car was paid for and I only had liabilty+uninsured motorist+personal injury I'm won't get any compensation for my car at all. So I'm car shopping again...I'm going down to Cedar Hill TX and buying this one 1999 Ford Crown Victoria I saw possibly tomorrow or Tuesday. They're reliable and cheap, about $5k.

My wrist was severely sprained, I got a concussion from the airbag when it hit my wrist and my wrist hit my forehead. Otherwise I've got a shattered ego and broken heart cuz I loved my car more than anything. I'm 24 and that's my 3rd total accident (2 of which were my fault) and this next car will be the 9th car I've owned. My driving record was spotless the past 3 years...and now because my brakes went out *I* will now have higher insurance and a ticket on my record. Life sucks a fat one.

Be careful with the Crown Victoria. There has been a lot of debate on whether to recall them or not. What happens is that they are prone to catching fire when rear-ended. Also the doors tend to get stuck shut too which makes escaping the fire a lot harder. I think it's only the Police Intercepter models that have this problem but I am not 100% sure. Google for websites that talk about this before you buy it to make sure the one you want doesn't have this flaw.

Shift into park? Hit the e-brake? Pump the brake to try and get a little pressure in the lines?

If airbags don't go off under 40 mph, you must have been moving with NO stopping distance.

Here's what I think happend to my brakes, since the pad wear was more than 60% and the rotors are severely worn I'm guessing the ABS didn't function correctly OR there was an air bubble in the lines that caused the brakes to malfunction. Either way, hitting a Suburban isn't the best thing in the world to have happen to an import car. = \

Way ahead of you, the one I'm possibly getting has the fire sheild on the gas tank and also has all the defects fixed.

For future reference, massively pumping the brake can sometimes give you enough braking power to at least slow down...or just hit the e-brake. If all else fails, put it in park. $3000 for a new tranny or $15,000 for a new car plus medical bills?

I didn't have the time because of the circumstances, I had enough time to slam my foot on the pedal once when it went to the floor. Thank goodness my insurance company covers my medical bills.

It won't always toast your tranny. Most often it will tho. But I do agree, how hard is it to kick the stick into park if it's a floor shifter, or just slam it into park with your hand? Not hard. It'll sound like ass, but it'll get the job done.
