Firefox finally getting the same adware as IE?

So this morning I decided to use the spanking new qemu 0.9.0 which I can see an improvement in speed and all good things. However, something very odd happened. I have a "frozen" snapshot image of Windows XP on the VM (last modified in Sep 06) and I usually boot that up to test qemu. Well, I opened firefox to see if there was any improvement, and instead Opera (which is the default browser) opened instead.

And showed me an ad (in Opera).

And then Firefox came up (default webpage).

This is irrefutable evidence that Firefox finally is being targeted by these ad scums. I have a similar problem with my adblock filterset.g loaded Firefox on my host machine. I get a pop under in a tab for an ad for "Smartfixer" every now and then. What do you guys suggest I do to fix it?

Heh, tonight my computer (host) was acting funny and saw something about "supermwindow"...turns out that I had Adware on the computer...how did it get there who knows...but I got AVG anti-spyware and it took care of it...

How the hell did the VM get affected though?
