This is truly sad. Now how will the ESA keep Jack Thompson at bay?
E3 is something I just discovered this year. Now I never get to see or hear from it again.<img src=smilies/cry.gif>

Good riddance.

I went for the past three years and enjoyed it every time. I think its whole problem was being guised as "an industry event"; the floor's sole function was to show off the latest gaming goodness to hordes of sneaky enthusiasts.

I hope it persists in some form as a media and public arena for showcasing games.

This is how much I care:

As do I...each year it seems like one big circus but I think that's why I like it.

It bothers me little. I have never gone, but from what I've seen and read about it, it seemed like nothing too great.

Plus I wouldn't have the money anyway. (Travel expenses. If there was an actual fee to attend it, then that'd add a big "no way" on my part.)

Well, just because "some" companies are pulling out of it, that doesn't mean that we won't see the big guns still coming out for the party, even if it is a little bit smaller than what everyone is used to. I honestly loved a lot of the videos from this year's show... I'm disappointed that things won't be the same next year. However, much like the gaming industry itself, change is (sometimes) good!

The news about this has just started to hit me now. It has been my dream to someday, somehow, attend an E3 for the past five years or so. Now I realize the chances of that have been slashed and it probably wouldn't be as meaningful to me now that it's been downsized anyway.

Once I recover from this, I am going to need a new dream.

Re: E3Expo!

Wouldn't 'E3Expo' expand to 'Electronic Entertainment Expo Expo'?

Yes. They were making fun of this on several sites earlier. Apparently there are plans to change the first "Expo" into something else that starts with E.

According to the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E3Wikipedia article</a> about it, the new name is "E3 Media Festival". I haven't heard anything about "E3Expo". Do you have a source for this?

That's very recent. Look back at the page history a couple of days:

PAX = new E3?

With E3 out of the way, http://http://www.pennyarcadeexpo.com/PAX (Penny Arcade Expo)</A> will be the largest gaming convention in the states. Nintendo, Microsoft, Turbine Games, NCSoft and several other major companies rent booths there -- and it's an event open to the public.

I mean, of course it has nowhere near the lavish excesses of E3, but with some gamer runoff flocking to it and some industry interest, it might evolve into something really cool.

Re: PAX = new E3?

With all the emphasis the had started paying to E3 in recent years I'm sure a new event or multiple events will rush in or be created to fill the void. I like the idea of actually touring a system around the country like with the Nintendo Fuzion tour. If you can endure the shitty bands and hoardes of 13yo emo kiddies you can fuck around with a Wii. Lot's of opprotunities to make something like that, a lot more exposure and more people get you see the system up close or perhaps even hands-on without having to travel as far.

Nintendo is really thinking outside the box, I really expect them to be the dominant console this cycle.
