The structure is a lot like a modern spam message.

I'm sorry, but all that makes me think of is one of those horrible, shitty goth "poem" pages on Geocities. Done by a 14 year old kid on a bad Robitussin trip.

Unnessesary line breaks != poetry. And the only person to ever spout gibberish words and actually have it work well was Lewis Carroll.

(Can you tell I've always hated E. E. Cummings with a passion? I wanted to throttle my 11th grade teacher for making me write an essay on the hack bastard.)

Cummings was just as much a visual artist as he was a poet. The structure he assigns to poems is a visual art form. For a better example of this, read Buffalo Bill. Also, there's aren't any gibberish words in there. If you think there are, you need to go back and reread it. He runs words into each other without spaces, but that's to indicate how they're to be read, not gibberish.

I miss that sig. :(

The only reason I took it out was because it got moved to YTMNSFW and I figured the disclaimer might scare people away, even though it didn't have anything objectionable in it.

I don't think you "got it". It doesn't seem like gibberish to me, it seems its showing that America itself a disparate conglomeration of assumptions and ideas which could be seen as a structure of gibberish when one looks at it from a perspective outside of the assumptions themselves. It also shows how the ideas flow through the mind in a non-lingual fashion, taking detours. Of course, if your idea of reality is very rigidly based on words, it might be hard to follow. From what I read in the text, I felt a very subtle sense of sarcasm that sort of expresses a sublime sense of "this sucks", while aiming to show that the reason it sucks is related to the way of thinking which would cause someone to say that the poem is gibberish.
