mirrors have nothing to do with seeing a vampire, it's the reflection that is invisable. Therefore, you would be able to see the vampire from the clear side, but on the same side, there would be no reflection.

Semi spoilers for unfortunate souls who have not played Aria of Sorrow (play it!)

> Castlevania ?

Soma is clearly visible when you walk by those mirrors in the Inner Quarters. Or could it be that he's not really a vampire (yet)?

I guess Soma isn't really a vampire unless/until he turns into Dracula.

I need to play Dawn of Sorrow. Only relatively new game I have any desire to play. But I'm not about to buy a whole system just for one game (and a handheld at that... EEWWWWW). Hurry up DS emulation! /wwwthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

I actually want it to remain beta quality for a bit longer. dunno why, but i feel it helps the market a bit.

You can't call the current level of DS emulation beta, its below that. like, pre-alpha, even.

Well I don't feel that way really. And if it can't be emulated, I guess I'm just SOL, because I'm sure as hell not buying the game.

Whatever... I can wait. The game will be just as fun 2 years from now as it would be today.

ON the other hand, a good emulator is nice for homebrew programmers (faster testing of programs) and it would sure make cheat searching for the Dipstar NDS cheat program easier.... (it has a PC side program that 'hooks' into NDS emulators for searching the virtual NDS's memory for cheats).

I think there's quite a ways to wait until there is an NDS emulator as compatible as say...No$GBA, or one of the SNES emulators that have been around for awhile.

Is that why you use emulators? To cheat? If so, that's quite possibly the lamest thing I've ever heard.

You are aware that when the DS Lite comes out in the U.S., the regular DS will be available for something like $70; and I've seen Dawn of Sorrow used for $21.

I think that you just don't want to pay for it, and you're willing to wait 4 years to play it free instead of paying money now. A touch screen cannot, I repeat, cannot be emulated on a PC unless: your PC is a Tablet PC, you have a Wacom Tablet(which still isn't satisfactory), or you use the mouse. None of these are as satisfactory as using the hardware it was DESIGNED for. The only one that might be NEAR would be using a Tablet PC.

I think that is just sleazy, like someone I know who downloaded a movie over a month instead of paying $10.

Wait until the perfect opportunity arises, such as another killer app for the DS, a huge price reduction, an idiot selling it for a low price, or someone giving it to you. I got a GBA in mint condition for $10 at a thrift store.

What don't you like about handhelds anyway? Nintendo products are renowned for their durablility. Just don't use a Wite-Out pen instead of a stylus (a lesson I learned the hard way).

Wow.

as in, it took a month to download? Tell them to get a better connection, I can download multiple movies a day, easily.

So ripping someone off or having someone else pay for it is better than downloading, you're a genius.

Sorry, not genius, I meant to say retard.

So you propose I spend $100 + price of batteries for a single game? No thanks. There's not a video game on the planet worth that much money.

> I think that you just don't want to pay for it,

Well duh. That's pretty much what I said before: "because I'm sure as hell not buying the game." If the game and system were free... then of course I'd get them. So obviously I'm just not willing to pay for it.

> and you're willing to wait 4 years to play it free instead of paying

Yep. Welcome to the wonderful world of emulation. I didn't play Aria of Sorrow until it was emulated either. Or Circle of the Moon. Or Symphony of the Night.

Like I said... the game will be just as much fun 2 or 4 or however many years from now as it would be if I played it today. If waiting means saving $100, then it looks like I'm going to wait.

> None of these are as satisfactory as using the

Did I ever say it would be? I'm sure using the mouse will be good enough for me. Does that mean it'll be as zomg awesome as the actual system? Of course not. Does that make the game+system worth $100 to me? Hell no.

> I think that is just sleazy,

Then I guess I'm sleazy. I'm a dirty pirate. That's why I frequent these emulation (read: piracy) message boards.

> like someone I know who
> downloaded a movie over a month instead of paying $10.

I can understand that. A dollar is worth a lot more to some people than you think. My income is very low and I'm not willing to throw away $100 on a whim on something I KNOW will be free a bit further down the road. So I'll wait for the price to come down some more -- until it's at $0. Because that's how much this paticular game is worth to me. $0. I'd rather not play it at all than pay money for it.... as I alluded to before: "And if it can't be emulated, I guess I'm just SOL"

> Wait until the perfect opportunity arises,

You mean the perfect opportunity like it being available for free on the internet with a functioning emulator? That IS what I'm waiting for.

> What don't you like about handhelds anyway?

They're too small. They're awkward for me to use and the screen is tiny. They hurt my neck after using them for more than 30 minutes. I prefer to be able to sit in a chair and look straight forward at a nice, big, easy to see monitor rather than sit crouched over and squint.

Yeah the size is nice for portability -- but I don't give a shit about portable video games -- so handhelds are useless to me.

hehe.

And controllers cannot, I repeat, cannot be emulated on a PC unless you use the keyboard. Or a gamepad.

For me the fun is SEARCHING for the cheats. I'm thinking you misunderstood me. It reminds me of when I used to muck around with the N64 gameshark's memory editor/cheat searching features. I found some interesting stuff sometimes, though admittedly that was way back when I had more free time than I knew what to do with. ;)

*edit*
To clarify more...I can use the emulator for cheat searching, but I actually USE the cheats via a program run on the actual NDS that loads itself into RAM, loads the game card, then hooks itself into the game. I'm actually looking now for an easier way to get the weird 'dummied out' weapons on Dawn of Sorrow. They aren't dummied out so much as usually not accessible to Soma unless you use a specific glitch, but that glitch is very unreliable and so I'd like a way to jury rig the results I guess you could say. :) It's only a matter of time before I find what bit of memory to poke to change the equipped weapon. I think I almost have it, but I need to do some searching first. Found something that *can* affect the equipped weapon but it doesn't seem to do much...I'm gonna search around that area of memory and hope I get lucky.

Current handheld systmes all use rechargable batteries.
