3D Drawing Programs?

I'm about to get one, but I don't know which one is the best for me to use. I'm a beginner, so perhaps something simple would be nice, but I do gradually want to do some pretty big stuff, so...Yeah, throw me a bone here

As far as free software goes, I heard Blender3D is pretty good.

Recently I've been using Wings 3D to make some models including the attached example. It's a nice freeware program. It doesn't do animation right now, but someone is working on adding a plugin for that. I've heard very good things about Blender, another free program, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

In a similar thread not vey long ago, skyfire1 mentioned he uses Anim8or, so you might want to check it out to.

A program I saw mentioned on the Wings 3D forum is Freyja.

I hope you are good with X, Y, and Z coordinated because most of the free and shareware programs I've seen are really complicated with a huge amount of gui options, actually to many.

The other problem I've notice is instead of just making 2 points then clicking to create a line and then moving that line and then going to the next line when creating a wire frame. The lines should also be easily edited by dragging into arcs or curves but most aren't. Hell they should have it so you can use shaped tools to push the lines into custom shapes like the eraser in photoshop is round so you can remove the edge of an area in photoshop and it'll round things gently and this should be in 3D but I haven't seen anything close to it. The think to much CAD/CAM like building houses and blocky stuff when they design most of these programs instead of boobies, trees, or anything without harsh straight edges. The other thing is textures. They usually such and are hard to place and control. It's usually all or nothing when coloring stuff with textures.

A lot of the programs instead are just a pain in the ass. They expect you to make an object like a cylinder or a cone and then move then together and connect them with options on how to connect. It's halfassed backwards way of doing stuff and I think half the problem is the programmers don't know any other way to do this so you end up with stuff that makes the N64 graphics look smooth as glass and flowing.

This is a major problem with 3D still is that most programs are still made totally WRONG. They have to design these things better and I believe it's going to be at least 5 or 10 years till you see one that's as easy to use as photoshop but I won't hold my breath.

Rhinoceros 3.0 Eval version
Blender
That modeler that came with corel draw 8 :p
Anything for quake 3 modeling

I got Rhinoceros 3.0, learning how to use everything now. Pretty easy, except for the command lines...

PS: I didn't know you played Quake 3. Whats your screen name?

This is so true, I've never done 3D models for this reason.
